The short answer: most UAE residents can fly to Mauritius without applying for a visa. Emiratis and Indian, Egyptian and British passport holders need no visa at all: an immigration officer simply decides your length of stay and stamps you in. Filipino and Sri Lankan passport holders get a free visa on arrival valid for 60 days. Pakistani and Bangladeshi passport holders must apply for a visa before they travel; it is free and normally takes about 12 working days. Whichever group you are in, every traveller, children included, must also complete the free Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form online before you fly.
Mauritius is one of the more comfortable long-haul beach breaks from the UAE: coral lagoons, the Le Morne Brabant peninsula and a mix of French, Indian, Creole and Chinese culture that shows up in the food. Non-stop flights from Dubai take under seven hours, which makes even a short break practical. Here is what each passport needs.
Mauritius visa for UAE residents at a glance
| Passport | Answer (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| United Arab Emirates | No visa needed |
| India | No visa needed |
| Egypt | No visa needed |
| United Kingdom | No visa needed |
| Philippines | Visa on arrival, 60 days, free |
| Sri Lanka | Visa on arrival, 60 days, free |
| Pakistan | Visa required before you travel, free, about 12 working days |
| Bangladesh | Visa required before you travel, free, about 12 working days |
These are the rules from the Passport and Immigration Office's own country-by-country list, as published when we checked in October 2026. Your UAE residence visa does not change them: Mauritius checks your passport, not where you live.
No visa needed: Emiratis, Indians, Egyptians and Britons
The Mauritius Passport and Immigration Office lists the United Arab Emirates, India, Egypt and the United Kingdom among the countries exempt from visa requirements altogether. You do not apply for anything before you fly. You still have to meet the general arrival conditions below, and the immigration officer at the airport decides how long you can stay.
Visa on arrival: Filipino and Sri Lankan passports
Filipino and Sri Lankan passport holders get a visa on arrival at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, valid for 60 days and issued free of charge. There is no pre-approval and no separate online application. You still need to meet the arrival conditions below when you land.
Visa required before you travel: Pakistani and Bangladeshi passports
Pakistani and Bangladeshi passport holders must get a visa before they fly; Mauritius does not offer them a visa on arrival.
- Gather your documents (below).
- Apply through Mauritius's Consulate General in Dubai. Where Mauritius has no diplomatic or consular office, the Passport and Immigration Office says to apply at an Air Mauritius office, or by post to piovisa@govmu.org.
- Wait for your visa. The Passport and Immigration Office says it is issued within about 12 working days of a complete application, and asks applicants to apply at least one month before travel.
- Carry the approved visa with your passport when you fly. A visa does not guarantee entry: the immigration officer decides at the airport.
Documents
- A visa application form, completed and signed
- Two recent passport-size photos
- A photocopy of your passport's data page
- A copy of your UAE residence permit, valid at least three months beyond your planned departure from Mauritius
- A copy of your return ticket to the UAE
- A bank statement for the last month
- Your hotel, apartment or guesthouse booking, with its name, phone number and email, or a sponsor's documents if a resident of Mauritius is hosting you
Business trips, conferences and weddings need extra documents, such as a covering letter from a local sponsor or institution; check the current list with the consulate before you apply.
Fee
The visa is free. Mauritius's Passport and Immigration Office does not charge for visas or extensions.
What you need to enter Mauritius
These conditions apply to every traveller, whatever your passport:
- A passport valid beyond your stay. Mauritius sets no fixed minimum beyond this, but carrying six months' validity avoids trouble with airlines and onward connections.
- A return or onward ticket to your country of origin or residence, and the right to re-enter it. If you live in the UAE on a residence visa, check that it stays valid well beyond your return date.
- Enough funds for your stay. The Passport and Immigration Office does not publish a fixed amount; a card and a confirmed, prepaid booking are the practical answer.
- A confirmed hotel, apartment or guesthouse booking, or sponsorship from a resident if you are staying with family or friends.
- No paid work without a residence or occupation permit.
A visa, or visa-free entry, does not guarantee admission. The final decision rests with the immigration officer after examination at the airport, and the officer sets how long you can stay for that visit.
The Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form
Every traveller, including children, must complete the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form online at safemauritius.govmu.org, run by the Ministry of Health and Wellness. It covers your travel details, personal and accommodation information, an emergency contact and a health declaration, and produces a QR code.
- Cost: free. The Government of Mauritius does not charge for this form.
- When: the official form page says proof of completion is needed at boarding, so fill it in before you check in. The form doesn't state a fixed window, so the day before you fly is a safe time to do it.
- Why it matters: the form states this is a legal requirement under Mauritian law, and that refusing to complete it, or knowingly giving false information, can mean a fine of up to MUR 500,000 and imprisonment of up to 5 years.
Use only the official site. It is free, and agent sites that charge a fee for this form are not needed.
Yellow fever and other health checks
Mauritius generally asks for a yellow fever vaccination certificate only from travellers arriving from, or who have transited through, a country with yellow fever risk. The UAE is not one, so a direct flight from Dubai should not trigger it. If your trip to Mauritius includes a stop in Africa or South America, check the current rule with your airline or a travel clinic before you fly.
Extending your stay
To extend, apply in person at the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis before your permitted stay ends. You will need the extension application form, the bio-data and arrival-stamp pages of your passport, your ticket, three months' bank statements and a confirmed accommodation booking, or a sponsor's documents if someone in Mauritius is hosting you. Extensions are free. Under Immigration's own Tourist Visa rules, a maximum of six months in a calendar year may be granted, decided case by case.
A pre-travel e-Visa or ETA is planned, not yet live
Mauritius's 2026-2027 budget, presented in June 2026, proposes an online pre-travel clearance for non-citizens, called an e-Visa in the budget speech and an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) in its annex. It needs a change to the Immigration Act before it can start, and as of October 2026 no fee, launch date or list of nationalities had been published. None of this changes the rules in this guide today. If your trip is close to any rollout date, check with the Passport and Immigration Office before you book.
Flights from the UAE
- From Dubai: Emirates and Air Mauritius both fly non-stop to Mauritius, in around 6 hours 40 minutes.
From Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, check the current timetables. UAE flights were disrupted for much of 2026, so confirm your flight with the airline before you book.

It is the official online health and travel declaration at safemauritius.govmu.org, run by Mauritius's Ministry of Health and Wellness. Every traveller, including children, completes it free before flying; it produces a QR code, and Mauritian law treats refusing it, or giving false details, as an offence.
How long is the flight from Dubai to Mauritius?
About 6 hours 40 minutes non-stop, on Emirates or Air Mauritius.
Planning a trip to Mauritius
The cooler, drier months from roughly June to September suit hiking around Le Morne and the Black River Gorges, while the warmer months from October to December are better for beach time; cyclones are most likely from January to March. A week covers the west and north coast beaches with a day trip to Chamarel and the Black River Gorges National Park.
