The short answer: which service you use depends on which authority issued the visa, not where you are. For a Dubai visa, use GDRFA Dubai's Fines Inquiry Service at gdrfad.gov.ae. For a visa issued in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah, use ICP's Fines Inquiry under Public Services at smartservices.icp.gov.ae. Both search by passport number, file number or Emirates ID, and neither asks you to sign in. The fines ICP's pages name are for staying past the visa's permitted stay, or staying on after a visa or residence permit is cancelled, both at AED 50 a day.
People run this check for two reasons. A visit visa is near its last day and someone wants to know, before booking a flight, whether anything is owed. Or a fine has come up, at an airline counter or on a sponsor's account, and they want to see it for themselves. This guide walks through both official search forms and what to do with the result. For the daily rate, grace periods and paying, see our UAE overstay fines guide.

Which service to search
The split follows the visa. A Dubai visa, including the tourist visas a Dubai travel agency arranges, sits with GDRFA Dubai. A visa issued in any of the other six emirates sits with ICP, the federal authority. The visa document shows which authority issued it and the file number; if you don't have it, ask the sponsor. Our UAE visa status check guide covers the same split for checking whether a visa is still valid.
GDRFA Dubai's Fines Inquiry Service, step by step
GDRFA Dubai describes the service as a way to check fines "on your file or those under your sponsorship", so a sponsor can run it for a visitor they brought in. On gdrfad.gov.ae, open the Fines Inquiry Service and fill in:
- Search type: File Number, UDB Number, Emirates ID or Passport Number.
- File type: Resident or Permit. A visit visa is a permit.
- Place of issue: the emirate that issued the file.
- The number for the search type you picked.
- Date of birth and gender, then the security check, then submit.
If the details do not match GDRFA Dubai's records, the page says so and gives its customer service number, 800 5111.
ICP's Fines Inquiry, step by step
On smartservices.icp.gov.ae, go to Public Services and choose Fines Inquiry, next to File Validity and Application Tracking. Then:
- Search by: Emirate Unified Number, File No., Emirates ID Number or Passport Information.
- Type: Residency or Visa.
- The details for your search: by file number or Emirates ID, the number plus nationality, date of birth and gender; by passport, the passport number, type and expiry date, plus nationality, date of birth and gender.
- Complete the security check and search.
What kinds of fines show up
ICP's service pages name two reasons for the AED 50 a day fine on a visa file:
- Overstaying. ICP's Visa Extension, Issuance of a Visa and Visa Cancellation pages list a fine for the "expiry of the permitted stay period for the visa holder, or expiration of the entry visa", at AED 50 a day.
- Staying on after a cancellation. ICP's Visa Cancellation page charges AED 50 for each day inside the UAE after an entry permit has expired or been cancelled, from the day after the grace period for that permit type ends. Its residence permit cancellation page says the same for residence visas.
Neither authority publishes a full list of every fine a file can carry. If the result shows something you don't recognise, ask GDRFA Dubai or ICP directly.
Paying a fine
The search shows whether a fine is on the file; settle it before the visa situation gets worse, since an overstay fine grows every day. To pay a fine on its own, contact GDRFA Dubai on 800 5111 or ICP on 600 522 222, or visit an Amer centre in Dubai or an ICP customer happiness centre, and pay through the channel they give you. GDRFA Dubai's regular Departure Permit, below, also needs every outstanding fine paid before it is issued.
Leaving the UAE with a fine unpaid
For a Dubai visa that has expired, GDRFA Dubai's Departure Permit is how a visitor leaves. It needs the passport, a personal photo and a ticket for a flight within 7 days, costs AED 241 and takes about 48 hours. Its terms say "the regular exit permit requires the payment of all outstanding fines". The page adds that if the fines are not paid, "an IRIS is required with permanent deprivation, and then the departure permit is issued". It does not explain that further, so read it as a strong reason to pay first and ask GDRFA Dubai before you take that route. For a visa from the other six emirates, ask ICP how to leave with an expired visa before you book a flight. Our overstay fines guide covers the exit permit in more detail.
Does an unpaid fine affect a new visa?
Neither authority publishes a general rule on this. What is clear is that the regular route out on an expired visa needs the fines paid, and a new visa is the authority's decision. If you plan a visa change, clear any fine on the old file first, and ask GDRFA Dubai or ICP if you are unsure how a fine affects your case.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check a UAE visa fine by passport number?
Use GDRFA Dubai's Fines Inquiry Service for a Dubai visa, or ICP's Fines Inquiry for a visa from the other six emirates, and choose Passport Number or Passport Information as the search type. Both also search by file number or Emirates ID.
How do I check a GDRFA fine in Dubai?
Open the Fines Inquiry Service on gdrfad.gov.ae, choose File Number, UDB Number, Emirates ID or Passport Number, then add the file type, place of issue, date of birth and gender and complete the security check. No sign-in is needed.
What is the ICP fines inquiry?
It is ICP's search for fines on a visa or residence file issued outside Dubai, under Public Services at smartservices.icp.gov.ae. Choose Residency or Visa and search by Emirate Unified Number, file number, Emirates ID or passport details.
How much is the UAE visa fine per day?
AED 50 a day, according to ICP's service pages, both for staying past a visa's permitted stay and for staying on after a visa or residence permit is cancelled. Our overstay fines guide covers grace periods and paying.
What happens if I don't pay the fine before I leave?
For a Dubai visa, GDRFA Dubai's regular Departure Permit needs all outstanding fines paid. Its page says that without payment, "an IRIS is required with permanent deprivation" before the permit is issued, so pay first.
Do traffic fines show up on a visa fine check?
No. These services cover visa and residence fines on a GDRFA Dubai or ICP file. Traffic fines are checked and paid through the police or traffic authority of the emirate.
After the check
If the check is clear, plan the next step before the visa's last day. Browse our UAE visa services for 14, 30, 60 and 90-day visit visas, which people also call tourist visas, ask about a visa change, or talk to us about dates. To avoid a fine starting at all, our free UAE visa check confirms a visa's status and sends WhatsApp and email reminders before it runs out. It does not check or pay government fines: those stay with GDRFA Dubai and ICP.
