Package Overview

Seven days across Georgia - Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Kazbegi, Uplistsikhe and the Kakheti wine country - with a guide throughout, three Georgian dinners and a tasting at three wineries. Georgia is small enough that a week covers it properly, and this itinerary is routed to do that rather than to circle back on itself. Two days in Tbilisi cover the old town, the sulfur baths in Abanotubani and a cable car up to Narikala Fortress. From there the tour moves out in three directions. Mtskheta was the country's capital for centuries and holds Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and the hilltop Jvari Monastery, both UNESCO-listed. Kazbegi is the mountain day - Gergeti Trinity Church standing alone below Mount Kazbek, at the far end of the Georgian Military Highway through the Caucasus. Uplistsikhe is older than either: a city carved into the rock, inhabited from roughly the first millennium BC. Kakheti is the wine, and it is not incidental. Georgia has been making wine in clay qvevri for some 8,000 years, and the tasting covers three wineries rather than one. A Georgian cooking class and three dinners with wine are included. Accommodation is four-star for all six nights, transport is an air-conditioned vehicle, and every entrance fee is covered. The season runs April to October; the Kazbegi road is a mountain pass and is best avoided outside it.
