Qatar is one of the few places where your UAE residence permit helps you more than your passport does. GCC nationals need no visa at all, and GCC residents can take a single-entry visa on arrival, or apply in advance for the equivalent through the Hayya platform. Two conditions catch people out regardless of route: you must hold health insurance from an insurer registered with Qatar's Ministry of Public Health, and if you are driving up through Abu Samra rather than flying, that insurance has to be arranged electronically before you reach the border.

Documents you'll usually need
- Passport valid for at least 6 months with blank pages
- UAE residence visa copy (valid at least 3 months)
- Emirates ID copy (front and back)
- Recent passport-size photographs to embassy specification
- Bank statements for the last 3-6 months
- Employment contract or NOC letter from your employer
- Confirmed flight and hotel reservations
- Travel medical insurance for the trip duration
