The short answer: most UAE residents need an Albanian e-visa, applied for online before they travel. You can skip it if you hold a valid multiple-entry Schengen, US or UK visa that you have already used, or a Schengen residence permit: Albania then lets you in for up to 90 days in any 180. Emiratis need no visa. The claim that a UAE residence permit alone gets you in visa-free is widely repeated online, but Albania's embassy pages do not say so, so do not rely on it.

Albania is under six hours from Dubai on a non-stop flight: Tirana, the old towns of Berat and Gjirokastër, and a coastline that is still cheaper than its neighbours. The visa rules are where most trips go wrong, so here is what the official sources say.

Is Albania visa-free with a UAE residence visa?

Not as far as the official sources show. Many websites say a UAE residence permit with a year or more left gets you into Albania visa-free, but they disagree on the conditions, and the pages of Albania's embassies in the UAE and Kuwait do not mention it. Until Albania confirms it, apply for the e-visa or ask the embassy in Abu Dhabi before you book.

Visa-free with a Schengen, US or UK visa

Albania lets in holders of a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa, type C or D, and holders of a Schengen residence permit, for as long as the visa or permit is valid, up to 90 days in any 180. Its embassy in Kuwait adds US and UK visas, on condition that the visa has already been used: you must have entered the country that issued it at least once. An unused visa does not count.

If you are applying for your first Schengen visa anyway, this is one more reason to; see our Schengen visa guide for UAE residents.

The Albanian e-visa

Everyone else applies online through Albania's official e-visa system. The documents usually asked for:

  • A passport valid for at least three months beyond your stay
  • A recent passport photo
  • Travel medical insurance
  • Your hotel booking and return ticket
  • A copy of your UAE residence visa

Fees and processing times quoted online vary widely, and we could not confirm them from the official portal. Apply at least three weeks before you fly, and pay only on the government site or through an agent who shows you the government fee separately.

Seasonal waivers for Gulf passports

Albania has waived visas for some Gulf passports for part of each year. In 2026, Qatari citizens can visit visa-free from 15 April to 31 December. Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain have been on earlier lists. These waivers go by passport, not by residence.

Getting from Dubai to Albania

flydubai flies non-stop from Dubai to Tirana in under six hours, several times a week. There is no non-stop flight from Abu Dhabi since Wizz Air Abu Dhabi closed in September 2025.

Frequently asked questions

Do UAE residents need a visa for Albania?

Most do, unless they hold a used multiple-entry Schengen, US or UK visa, a Schengen residence permit, or a passport on Albania's visa-free list. Emiratis need no visa.

Is Albania visa-free for UAE residence holders?

Many websites say so, but Albania's embassy pages do not. Do not rely on a UAE residence permit alone; apply for the e-visa or confirm with the embassy.

Can Indians in Dubai visit Albania without a visa?

Only with a used multiple-entry Schengen, US or UK visa, or a Schengen residence permit. Otherwise they apply for the e-visa.

How long can I stay in Albania?

Up to 90 days in any 180, whether you enter visa-free or on an e-visa.

Do Emiratis need a visa for Albania?

No. Albania has waived visas for UAE citizens since February 2015.

Is there a direct flight from Dubai to Tirana?

Yes, with flydubai, in under six hours.
