First, a common mix-up: is Dubai a Schengen country?
No. Dubai is in the United Arab Emirates, which is not part of the Schengen Area and never has been. This confuses a lot of people, so to be precise:
- A Schengen visa does not let you enter the UAE. If you need a UAE visa, you need a UAE visa.
- A UAE residence visa does not let you enter the Schengen Area on its own. You still need a Schengen visa.
- What your UAE residence does do is let you apply from here, through the consulates in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, rather than from your home country.
That last point is the genuinely useful one, and it is why applying as a UAE resident is often smoother than applying from your passport country.
What is the Schengen Area in 2026?
The Schengen Area covers 29 European countries that have abolished border checks between them. One visa, issued by one member state, admits you to all of them. Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland are all inside it.
A short-stay Schengen visa allows up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. That is a cumulative total across all 29 countries, not 90 days per country.
Schengen visa fees for UAE residents in 2026
The European Commission raised the standard short-stay visa fee with effect from 11 June 2026:
- Adults: EUR 90 (up from EUR 80)
- Children aged 6–12: EUR 45 (up from EUR 40)
- Children under 6: generally exempt
On top of the consular fee you pay the visa application centre's service charge — most Schengen consulates in the UAE process through VFS Global or BLS International. Once you add the service charge, courier and any optional extras, UAE applicants typically end up somewhere in the region of AED 1,200 to AED 1,800 per adult.

- Passport valid at least three months beyond your return date, with at least two blank pages, issued within the last ten years
- UAE residence visa valid for at least three months beyond your return — several consulates want longer, so check
- Emirates ID (copy, and sometimes the original at the appointment)
- Completed application form, signed
- Two recent photographs to Schengen specification — this is a common rejection reason, so use a centre that knows the format
- Confirmed return flight reservation
- Confirmed accommodation for the whole stay
- Travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 across all Schengen states
- Bank statements, usually the last three to six months, showing consistent balance
- Salary certificate and employment NOC, or trade licence and company documents if you are self-employed

Documents that demonstrate stability — a steady salary, a long-running account, a valid residence visa with time left on it — do more for your application than an expensive itinerary.
Which country should you apply to?
You do not get to choose freely. The rule is:
- Apply to the country where you will spend the most nights.
- If nights are split evenly, apply to the country you will enter first.
Applying to a country you barely visit because you heard its slots are easier is a well-known reason for refusal, and consulates cross-check itineraries against bookings.

Searches for the "easiest Schengen visa for UAE residents" are extremely common, and the honest answer has two parts.
There is no country that approves weak applications. What genuinely differs is appointment availability and processing speed, and that shifts constantly. Historically, UAE applicants have found slots easier to obtain for countries with lower demand from this market — the Baltic states, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Greece in the shoulder seasons — while Italy, Spain and France see the longest queues from UAE applicants in summer.
