The short answer: Emiratis don't need a visa for the Czech Republic: they can stay up to 90 days in any 180. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan nationals living in the UAE need a Schengen visa. You apply at VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Abu Dhabi decides; there is no Czech consulate in Dubai. The visa fee is AED 385 for adults, plus a VFS service charge of AED 111.19. Processing takes at least 15 calendar days, and the checklist asks for three months of bank statements.
Prague's Old Town, Charles Bridge and the castle above the Vltava, the spa town of Karlovy Vary and the medieval centre of Český Krumlov are why most UAE residents go. The Czech Republic issues Schengen visas, so a Czech visa also covers the other Schengen countries, as long as the Czech Republic is your main destination.

Who needs a visa for the Czech Republic
Whether you need a visa depends on your passport. UAE citizens have been able to visit the Czech Republic and the rest of the Schengen area without a visa since May 2015. They will need the EU's ETIAS travel authorisation once it starts; it hasn't yet, and the EU says it will announce the date several months ahead.
Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan nationals need a Schengen visa, and so do most other nationalities living in the UAE. EU rules say you apply in the country where you legally live, so UAE residents apply in the UAE, not at home.
Apply to the Czech Republic if it is your main destination, where you spend the most nights. Five nights in Prague and Český Krumlov and three in Vienna is a Czech application; the reverse is an Austrian one. See our Schengen visa guide for how the rule works.
Filing directly at the Czech embassy in Abu Dhabi, rather than through a visa centre, is reserved for family members of EU citizens, diplomatic or official passport holders, and urgent humanitarian cases. Everyone else, including most UAE residents, applies through VFS Global, and the embassy decides.
How to apply from Dubai or Abu Dhabi
- Fill in the Schengen application form, then print it and sign it. For a child under 18, bring an NOC or travel authorisation from the parent or legal guardian who isn't travelling.
- Book an appointment on VFS Global's Czech Republic site for the UAE, which the embassy links from its own page. Guides say Abu Dhabi and Al Ain residents use the Abu Dhabi centre and residents of the other emirates use Dubai.
- Attend your appointment at VFS's joint visa centre in Wafi Mall, Dubai, or the World Trade Centre mall, Abu Dhabi (level B2). You hand in your documents, give fingerprints unless you gave them for a Schengen visa in the last 59 months, and pay the fees.
- Wait at least 15 calendar days. VFS forwards your application to the embassy, and the embassy decides.
There is no Czech consulate in Dubai: the embassy's consular section is in Marina Village, Villa A-09, Breakwater, Abu Dhabi, and sees visitors by appointment only, booked by email, Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm. Its phone line answers weekday mornings only, 9am to noon.
Documents
VFS's tourism checklist for the Czech Republic asks for:
- The signed application form
- Passport and a copy, with at least two blank pages, issued within the last ten years, valid at least three months after you return
- UAE residence visa valid at least three months after you return; GCC nationals can use their ID card instead
- One recent photo, ICAO-compliant, on a light background, no older than six months
- A letter from your employer stating your position, contract length and salary, or an original trade licence if you're self-employed
- Hotel booking covering your whole stay, or your host's address if you're staying with family or friends
- Bank statements for the last three months, original or stamped by the bank, from a current account rather than a deposit account. A credit card valid for your whole stay, or recent payslips, can stand in instead.
- Travel medical insurance with at least EUR 30,000 of cover for the whole Schengen area, including repatriation
- Return flight reservation and a copy
Visiting family or friends
Your host in the Czech Republic can invite you in one of two ways: a certified invitation form checked and stamped by the Czech Alien Police, submitted as the original, or a non-certified letter, dated within the last six months, with the host's signature notarised. The invitation states how much of your stay the host is covering, in lodging, funds or both, which can reduce what you need to show yourself.
Children
Bring the child's birth certificate and copies of both parents' passports. A minor travelling without both parents needs a travel authorisation signed by the absent parent or legal guardian in front of a visa officer, or a notarised equivalent.
How much money you need to show
The Czech Republic doesn't publish a daily amount for UAE applicants. The checklist asks for three months of statements from a current account, or a valid credit card or payslips instead, so a steady income matters more than one month's balance.
Fees and processing time
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Visa fee, adults | AED 385 |
| Visa fee, children aged 6 to 11 | AED 192 |
| Visa fee, children under 6 | Free |
| VFS service charge, every applicant | AED 111.19 |
| Total for one adult | AED 496.19 |
VFS says dirham amounts follow the exchange rate and can change without notice, and that no fee is refunded. A decision is legally due within 15 calendar days, extendable to 30, and in exceptional cases to 60 when more checks are needed. You can apply up to six months before you travel and no later than 15 days before. The embassy's own page warns that demand for appointments is high and advises applying early.
If you're refused, the appeal goes to the embassy in writing, in person or by post, not by email and not through VFS, within 15 days of the refusal notice. Other Czech missions publish an appeal fee of EUR 80, waived for family members of EU or Czech citizens; we couldn't confirm an Abu Dhabi-specific figure, so check it with the embassy. The appeal goes to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Prague, which reviews it within 60 days.
At the border
Since April 2026, the Czech Republic and every other Schengen country register non-EU visitors in the EU's Entry/Exit System. On your first trip since it started, you give fingerprints and a photo at passport control instead of getting a stamp.
Flights from the UAE
- Emirates flies non-stop from Dubai to Prague; its aircraft and the number of flights a week changed more than once in 2026.
- Etihad began non-stop flights from Abu Dhabi to Prague on 2 June 2025, reported at about four times a week.
- Air Arabia flies non-stop from Sharjah to Prague, launched on 20 December 2025; reports differ on whether it runs daily or five times a week.
Flights between the UAE and Europe were disrupted for much of 2026, so check your flight with the airline before you book, and make sure the reservation you submit matches your application dates.

Planning a trip to the Czech Republic
Four days covers Prague: the castle, Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square. A week adds a day trip to Český Krumlov or Kutná Hora, or a night in Karlovy Vary's spa town. Vienna is under four hours from Prague by train and in Schengen too, so one visa covers both. See our Schengen visa services for help preparing your Czech application, browse holiday packages, or talk to us about flights and hotels.
