Georgia is the most-asked-about short break from Dubai, and the most misunderstood. "Georgia is visa-free for UAE residents" is repeated everywhere — it is sometimes true, it comes with conditions that are checked at the border, and it has been administered as a temporary policy rather than a permanent right.
Here is the accurate position, and what to do if the exemption does not cover you.
The residency-based exemption, and its conditions
Georgia has extended visa-free entry — commonly up to 90 days — to holders of a valid UAE residence permit, regardless of passport nationality. That is genuinely unusual and it is why Georgia became such a popular Gulf weekend.
But the conditions matter, and they are enforced on arrival:
- The residence permit has generally needed to be multiple-entry
- With at least 12 months validity remaining on arrival under recent policy
- You must be travelling on the passport the permit is attached to
Two cautions worth taking seriously. A single-entry permit, or one close to expiry, may not qualify — and the check happens at Tbilisi immigration, after you have flown. And Georgia has run this as a time-limited policy that is periodically renewed, not a standing arrangement; it has lapsed and been reinstated before.
Confirm the current position before booking anything non-refundable. This is the single most common piece of outdated advice we are asked to correct.
If the exemption does not apply to you
Plenty of travellers fall outside it — a permit with ten months left, a single-entry permit, or a change in the policy window. There are two other routes.
Visa-free on your passport
Georgia grants visa-free entry to a long list of nationalities in their own right, including EU states, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Japan and the Gulf states. If your passport is on that list, the UAE residence question never arises.
The Georgian e-visa
Everyone else applies online for an e-visa through the official Georgian e-visa portal. It is a conventional application — a form, supporting documents, a fee — with processing usually measured in about five working days. The ordinary e-visa permits stays of up to 30 days.
This is the route most commonly needed by Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan passport holders whose UAE permit does not meet the exemption conditions.
Documents for a Georgian e-visa
- Passport valid at least six months beyond your intended stay
- Scan of the passport bio page
- Passport photograph
- Confirmed return flight booking
- Hotel booking for the duration
- Travel medical insurance covering the stay
- Bank statement showing sufficient funds
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID
Notably more than Azerbaijan asks for, but far less than a Schengen application. The fee is modest and paid online.
What it costs to visit
The visa is the cheap part. Georgia's real appeal for UAE residents is that costs on the ground are a fraction of Dubai's — meals, taxis, guesthouses and wine all included.
Our Georgia Cultural Heritage Tour runs seven days and six nights from AED 4,799 per person, covering four-star hotels, daily breakfast, three traditional dinners with wine, a wine tasting across three Kakheti wineries, a Georgian cooking class, a cable car to Narikala Fortress, and an English-speaking guide throughout. International flights are excluded, which keeps the package price honest.

How far is Georgia from Dubai?
Tbilisi is roughly 1,900 km from Dubai — about three hours and ten minutes non-stop. Close enough that a three-day weekend genuinely works.
When to go
The package season runs April to October, and that matches the country well:
- April to June — green, mild, wildflowers in the mountains
- September to October — the wine harvest in Kakheti, and the best light of the year
- July and August — warm in Tbilisi, pleasant in the mountains, busiest with Gulf visitors
- November to March — cold, with proper snow and a real ski season at Gudauri
Frequently asked questions
Is Georgia visa-free for UAE residents?
It has been, for up to 90 days, but subject to conditions — typically a multiple-entry residence permit with at least 12 months validity remaining on arrival. Georgia administers this as a periodically renewed policy rather than a permanent rule, so verify the current position before booking.
Do UAE residents need a visa to Georgia?
It depends on your permit and your passport. If your residence permit meets the conditions, no. If it does not, you need either passport-based visa-free entry or a Georgian e-visa.
How much is a Georgia visa for UAE residents?
Nothing if you qualify for the residency exemption. If you need the e-visa, the fee is modest and paid online. Confirm the current amount on the official portal.
Can Pakistani or Indian passport holders get a Georgia visa from Dubai?
Yes. If your UAE residence permit does not meet the exemption conditions, apply for the Georgian e-visa online — usually around five working days, with a document list covering flights, accommodation, insurance and funds.
How long does a Georgian e-visa take?
Commonly about five working days. Apply at least two weeks ahead of travel.
How many hours is it from Dubai to Georgia?
About three hours and ten minutes non-stop to Tbilisi, roughly 1,900 km.

Getting it right before you book
Georgia is the destination where we most often correct outdated information — usually someone who read that it is visa-free, holds a permit with eight months left, and has already booked flights. A two-minute check of your permit against the current policy prevents that.
