Flight time is the most underrated filter in trip planning. It decides whether a destination is a long weekend or a proper holiday — and from Dubai, some of the most rewarding places are closer than people assume.
Here are realistic non-stop flying times from Dubai to the destinations we are asked about most, with a note on what each one is actually good for.
Flight times from Dubai at a glance
- Baku, Azerbaijan — about 3 hours (roughly 1,850 km)
- Tbilisi, Georgia — about 3 hours 10 minutes (roughly 1,900 km)
- Yerevan, Armenia — about 3 hours 10 minutes (roughly 1,900 km)
- Istanbul, Turkey — about 4 hours 45 minutes (roughly 3,000 km)
- Bali, Indonesia — about 9 hours (roughly 6,900 km)
- Tokyo, Japan — about 9 hours 45 minutes (roughly 7,900 km)
These are non-stop times in normal conditions. Connecting itineraries can add several hours, and westbound legs are often slightly longer than eastbound because of prevailing winds.
The three-hour club: Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia
These three are the reason "short break from Dubai" is a real category rather than a compromise. In the time it takes to watch two films you are in the Caucasus — mountains, forests, a completely different food culture, and in winter, actual snow.
Tbilisi, Georgia — about 3 hours 10 minutes
Georgia does a lot with a short flight: a genuinely old city centre, sulphur baths, one of the world's oldest wine regions in Kakheti, and mountain scenery within a couple of hours' drive of the capital. The best months are April to October.
Our Georgia Cultural Heritage Tour covers seven days and six nights from AED 4,799 per person, including four-star hotels, daily breakfast, three traditional dinners with wine, a wine tasting across three Kakheti wineries, a Georgian cooking class and an English-speaking guide throughout. International flights are not included, which keeps the package price honest and lets us book your flights at the going rate.
Georgia is also frequently accessible to UAE residence permit holders without a visa, subject to conditions — see our guide to travel options for UAE residents and confirm the current position before booking.
Baku, Azerbaijan — about 3 hours
Baku is the most architecturally dramatic of the three: a walled medieval old city sitting directly beneath the Flame Towers, on the Caspian. UAE residents can usually get a visa on arrival or an ASAN e-visa within about three working days, so the paperwork is light.
Yerevan, Armenia — about 3 hours 10 minutes
Yerevan is the quietest of the three and the best value. Ancient monasteries, Mount Ararat on the skyline, and a café culture that rewards doing very little. Armenia has extended visa-free entry to UAE residence permit holders.
Istanbul, Turkey — about 4 hours 45 minutes
Still comfortably a long-weekend destination, and the one that gives you the most city for the time. Most nationalities can use Turkey's e-visa system, which is quick and handled online. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons; summer is hot and busy.
Bali, Indonesia — about 9 hours
Nine hours puts Bali firmly in "use your annual leave properly" territory — we would not recommend it for less than a week. The reward is a genuine change of pace: rice terraces, surf beaches, and Ubud's temples and forest.
Our Magical Bali Adventure runs seven days and six nights from AED 4,799 per person. The dry season, roughly April to October, is the reliable window.
Tokyo, Japan — about 9 hours 45 minutes
The longest flight on this list and the biggest shift in every direction — food, transport, etiquette, scale. Japan rewards a longer trip because so much of it is outside Tokyo, and the rail network makes covering ground genuinely easy.
Our Ultimate Japan Adventure covers ten days and nine nights from AED 9,199 per person. Cherry blossom in late March and April, and autumn colour in November, are the two peak windows — and both need booking well ahead.
How to choose by the time you have
- A long weekend (3–4 days): Georgia, Azerbaijan or Armenia. Three hours each way leaves the weekend intact.
- Five to seven days: Turkey, or a fuller Georgia itinerary that reaches the mountains and wine country.
- Seven to ten days: Bali. The flight only makes sense with time on the ground.
- Ten days or more: Japan. Anything less and you spend the trip in transit.
A note on visas before you book flights
Flight time is the easy constraint. The visa is the one that moves your dates. Some of these destinations need nothing from UAE residents, some need a straightforward e-visa, and some need a full application with an appointment queue attached.
Check the requirement for your passport before booking anything non-refundable — our visa services page covers 55 destinations, including all of the above.
