The short answer: Baku is about 3 hours from Dubai by air, non-stop, roughly 1,850 km. flydubai, Azerbaijan Airlines and Air Arabia (from Sharjah) all fly the route. Most UAE residents need either the ASAN e-visa, about USD 23 and normally issued within 3 working days, or visa on arrival; UAE nationals are visa-exempt. A 5 to 6-day trip – Baku's Old City, Gobustan, Gabala and Sheki – costs roughly AED 1,600–2,200 per person on the ground, on top of flights. Our National Day Azerbaijan package runs 6 days and 5 nights from AED 3,199 per person, departing 2 December 2026.

Dubai to Baku flight time, and who flies it

Dubai to Baku takes about 3 hours non-stop, covering roughly 1,850 km – the shortest hop of any of the Caucasus destinations from the UAE. flydubai operates the route daily (also sold under Emirates flight numbers as a codeshare, operated by flydubai), Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) flies it with wide-body aircraft, and Air Arabia covers it non-stop from Sharjah. Published block times vary by source and season, from about 2 hours 50 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes, so check the airline's own site for your exact dates.

The ASAN e-visa

Most UAE residents need a visa for Azerbaijan, applied for online through the official ASAN Visa portal at evisa.gov.az. The standard e-visa costs USD 20 plus a USD 3 service charge (USD 23 total), is single-entry, allows a stay of up to 30 days, and is normally issued within 3 working days; an urgent service turns it around in about 3 hours for USD 50 total. UAE nationals do not need a visa at all. Visa on arrival is also available to a range of nationalities at Baku airport, but we recommend the e-visa regardless: it costs about the same and avoids any question at the departure gate.

We cover the full process, documents and timeline in our Azerbaijan visa guide. If you would rather we handled the application, see Azerbaijan visa services.

What does an Azerbaijan trip cost from Dubai?

Azerbaijan prices in the manat (AZN). The Central Bank of Azerbaijan has held the manat at about 1.70 to the US dollar since 2017, and the dirham is pegged at 3.67 to the dollar, which puts 1 AZN at roughly AED 2.16 at the time of writing – check a live rate before you travel. A realistic 5 to 6-day ground budget per person, excluding international flights, looks like this:

  • Hotel (mid-range, sharing a double room): about AED 140–180 a night, so AED 700–900 for five nights
  • Food (a mix of local eateries and sit-down restaurants): about AED 60–90 a day, so AED 360–540 for six days
  • Local transport (Bolt rides plus the metro's flat AZN 0.60 fare, about AED 1.30): about AED 20–30 a day, so AED 120–180
  • Day tours and entries: Gobustan and the Absheron peninsula as one day, plus Gabala's cable car and Sheki's Khan's Palace, together run about AED 400–550
  • A local SIM: about AED 25–35

That lands at roughly AED 1,600–2,200 per person for five to six days, before flights and before any package price. Azerbaijan is noticeably cheaper than the UAE for food and taxis, which makes a short trip go further than the flight time suggests.

A 5–6 day Azerbaijan itinerary

Day 1 – Baku Old City

Icherisheher, the walled medieval old city, holds the Maiden Tower and the Shirvanshahs' Palace, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Finish the day with dinner near the Boulevard, Baku's seaside promenade.

Day 2 – Modern Baku

The Flame Towers rise directly above the old city, so medieval and contemporary Baku sit in the same view. The Heydar Aliyev Center, Zaha Hadid's curved cultural centre, with a museum, an auditorium and exhibition halls, is worth seeing even without a particular exhibition in mind. Spend the rest of the day walking the Boulevard.

Day 3 – Gobustan and Absheron

Gobustan National Park, about an hour south of Baku, protects more than 6,000 prehistoric rock carvings and sits beside a field of mud volcanoes. On the way back, the Absheron peninsula has Yanardag, a natural gas seep that has burned continuously for decades, and the Ateshgah fire temple at Surakhani – both roughly 25–40 km from the city centre.

Days 4–5 – Gabala and Sheki

Gabala is about 3 hours north-west of Baku; its Tufandag cable car climbs into the foothills of the Caucasus for mountain views. Sheki, a further hour or so on, has the restored Khan's Palace and an old caravanserai, both part of its UNESCO-listed historic centre. The distance justifies an overnight in Gabala or Sheki rather than a same-day return; head back to Baku on day 5, or add a sixth day.

Day 6 (optional) – Shahdag, or a free day in Baku

If you are travelling between roughly mid-December and mid-April, Shahdag's ski slopes are about 3 hours from Baku via Gusar and make a realistic add-on day. Outside the ski season, use the extra day in Baku instead – the Carpet Museum, the Martyrs' Lane viewpoint, or simply a slower morning before your flight.

Best time to visit Baku

Baku is known locally as the city of winds, off the Caspian; that wind takes the edge off summer heat but makes winter feel colder than the thermometer suggests.

MonthsBaku day/night °CWhat to expect
April–June17–27 / 8–18Mild to warm, green, the most comfortable window for sightseeing
July–August29 / 21–22Hot and humid near the coast; the Caspian wind takes the edge off
September–October19–26 / 12–18Warm days, cooling fast by late October
November–March6–13 / 1–8Cold and windy in Baku; Shahdag's ski season usually runs mid-December to mid-April

Practical notes for your Azerbaijan trip

  • Currency. The Azerbaijani manat (AZN), pegged at about 1.70 to the US dollar; roughly AED 2.16 per manat at the time of writing.
  • Cards. Widely accepted in Baku hotels, restaurants and malls. Carry manat for Sheki, Gabala, markets and taxis.
  • Getting around. Bolt is the common ride-hailing app in Baku; the metro runs on a flat AZN 0.60 fare paid with a BakıKart (sometimes shown as BakuCard), cashless only.
  • SIM. Azercell, Bakcell and Nar sell prepaid tourist bundles at the airport and in the city, typically AZN 15–35 for a data and call package.
  • Halal food. Azerbaijan is a majority-Muslim country and halal food is the norm, including in Baku's restaurants and most hotel kitchens.

Do I need a visa for Azerbaijan?

Most UAE residents do, either the ASAN e-visa (about USD 23, normally issued within 3 working days) or visa on arrival, depending on nationality. UAE nationals are visa-exempt. See our Azerbaijan visa guide for the current rule for your passport.

How much does an Azerbaijan trip cost from Dubai?
