The short answer: Dubai usually stages its biggest New Year's Eve fireworks over Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai, with further displays at Burj Al Arab, Atlantis The Palm, JBR, Bluewaters and the Dubai Frame, and seven separate countdowns through the night at Global Village for different time zones. Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Festival at Al Wathba and Ras Al Khaimah's Al Marjan Island both have a recent habit of breaking Guinness World Records with their midnight shows. As of early November 2026, no official organiser had yet published exact plans for 31 December 2026, so this guide gives last year's confirmed pattern and flags what to check nearer the date.
| Emirate | What to expect (based on last year) | Ticket needed? | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burj Khalifa / Downtown Dubai | Dubai | Main fireworks and light show at Burj Park; free viewing across Downtown and Dubai Mall's frontage | Burj Park: yes. Public viewing areas: no |
| Atlantis The Palm | Dubai | Fireworks over the Palm, visible from the Boardwalk and public beaches | No, for the view from outside |
| JBR and Bluewaters | Dubai | Twin displays either side of the water, plus a nightly drone show in the run-up | No |
| Dubai Frame | Dubai | Fireworks visible from Zabeel Park | No for the park; the Sky Deck is separate |
| Global Village | Dubai | Seven countdowns and fireworks through the night for different time zones | Park entry ticket |
| Hatta | Dubai | A quieter mountain-backdrop display near the Hatta Sign | No |
| Sheikh Zayed Festival, Al Wathba | Abu Dhabi | Record-breaking fireworks and drone shows in past years; the 2026-27 season is already open | No, general entry |
| Yas Bay Waterfront | Abu Dhabi | Two fireworks displays, free viewing plus a ticketed terrace | Free areas: no. Terrace: yes |
| Al Marjan Island | Ras Al Khaimah | A record-chasing drone and fireworks show along the coastline | No, general viewing |
Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa
Downtown Dubai is still the big one. Last year's show, run by Emaar through its My Dubai New Year site, split the area into a ticketed zone and free public viewing. Burj Park was the ticketed experience, with entry from AED 997 per adult, a themed stage show and a clear line of sight to the tower. Everyone else watched for free from public areas around Downtown, Dubai Mall's waterfront, or a hotel or residence balcony facing the right way.
Road closures around Downtown began at 4pm last year, with celebrations from around 5pm and the countdown just before midnight. Next year's ticketing had not gone live when we checked in early November.
Getting there and the Metro
In the past two years, the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro station has closed from around 5pm, or earlier once it reaches capacity, with the Metro itself running through the night, close to 43 hours straight. If that station is shut, get off at Emirates Towers, World Trade Centre, Financial Centre or Business Bay and walk in. RTA and Dubai Police run a joint control centre on the night with live updates, so follow their official channels rather than last year's exact timings.
Other Dubai viewing spots
Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach: no fee and no booking, just the public beach or the Walk at JBR for a clear view of the sail-shaped hotel's own fireworks. Go before 11pm, since the beach fills early and parking along Jumeirah Road disappears fast.
Atlantis The Palm and the Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk: Atlantis runs its own midnight fireworks, visible from the Boardwalk and the beaches either side, free to watch outside the resort's own ticketed gala. Traffic onto the Palm is heavy from mid-evening.
JBR and Bluewaters: Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai light up opposite The Beach at JBR, giving two displays facing each other across the marina mouth, with a nightly drone show in the run-up to New Year.
Dubai Frame: Zabeel Park has had its own confirmed fireworks slot in recent years and stays open later than usual, a good option for a clear skyline view without the Downtown crowds, with easier parking and a shorter Metro walk.
Global Village: seven countdowns in one night
Global Village's New Year's Eve is its own event. Last year it ran seven separate countdowns through the night, each with its own fireworks and drone show, timed to China, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Dubai and Turkey reaching midnight in turn. The park opened with extended hours, 4pm to 2am, and entry on the night was limited to families, couples and ladies. Our Global Village entry ticket covers the regular Season 31 programme; confirm with the park whether the countdown schedule and entry rules carry over this year.
Hatta
For something quieter, Hatta has run its own fireworks near the Hatta Sign as part of its winter festival, set against the Hajar Mountains rather than a skyline. It draws a smaller, more local crowd than anywhere in the city, and it pairs naturally with a day of kayaking or hiking before the show.
Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Zayed Festival and Yas Bay
Abu Dhabi has taken the Guinness World Records habit furthest. The Sheikh Zayed Festival at Al Wathba has broken multiple fireworks and drone records on New Year's Eve in recent years, drawing over a million visitors some nights. The 2026-27 season is already open, running 30 October 2026 to 13 March 2027, though this New Year's show scale wasn't announced when we checked. Past editions ran 40 to 50 minutes of fireworks with drone displays of several thousand drones.
Yas Bay Waterfront is the other reliable spot. Last year it ran two displays, at 9pm and midnight, with free viewing alongside ticketed terraces. Car parks filled hours before midnight, so go early or take a taxi.
Ras Al Khaimah: Al Marjan Island
Ras Al Khaimah has picked up 13 Guinness World Records titles across its New Year's Eve shows over the past seven years, dating back to a 2018 record for the largest aerial firework shell. Last year's show set a record for the largest aerial phoenix formed by drones, using more than 2,300 drones alongside a 15-minute pyrotechnic show across roughly six kilometres of coastline. Expect another record attempt if RAK keeps up the pattern, though the category for 2026-27 hadn't been announced when we checked.
Watching the fireworks from the water
RTA has run special Dubai Ferry, Water Taxi and Abra sailings on New Year's Eve in recent years, timed to pass Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Atlantis, Bluewaters and Jumeirah Beach while the fireworks go off. Last year's sailings ran from around 9.30pm to 1.30am from Marina Mall, Al Ghubaiba, Bluewaters, Al Jaddaf and Al Fahidi, bookable through RTA on 800 9090; check RTA's channels for this year's schedule.
For a private evening on the water, our Dubai Marina superyacht cruise runs a Nightfall sailing with a DJ and a live cooking station on board, and our dhow dinner cruise on the Creek is a calmer, lower-cost evening away from the fireworks crowds.
Getting home after midnight
Don't plan on driving out of Downtown, the Marina or the Palm straight after midnight: roads around every major venue stay heavily congested for an hour or more. The Dubai Metro is the most reliable way out, since it has run through the night on New Year's Eve the past few years; just build in extra time if your nearest station is one of the ones that closes early or hits capacity. Taxi and ride-hailing demand spikes hard around midnight, so if you do need a car, book it well before the countdown rather than trying to hail one afterwards.
Avoiding the crush with children
Dubai Police has run dedicated family programming on New Year's Eve in recent years: tents for lost children, first aid and visitor help, reserved family beaches, and extended hours at several public parks. A few habits help with kids in a crowd that can run to hundreds of thousands of people:
- Agree a meeting point before you arrive, and write a parent's phone number on your child's arm or a wristband, since phone signal gets patchy once everyone is online at once.
- Pick a spot with a way out, such as the Dubai Frame or Hatta, rather than tight central Downtown, if a stroller or an early bedtime is part of the plan.
- Global Village's family-only entry rule on the night, if it repeats this year, keeps out the rowdier crowd you'll find at some city venues.
- Arrive hours early rather than for the final countdown. Every popular spot on this list fills from late afternoon.
Before you go
- Dress for a cool night: late December evenings run 18–24°C, fine for standing outside but worth a light jacket after midnight.
- Confirm this year's details nearer the date on RTA, Dubai Police, Emaar's My Dubai New Year site, Visit Dubai or Visit Ras Al Khaimah, since none had published 2026-27 plans when we checked.
- Book a dhow, yacht or Global Village ticket ahead, not on the day: anything bookable sells out fastest in the final week of December.
Spending New Year somewhere colder instead?
If you'd rather welcome 2027 in Europe than in a Dubai crowd, our escorted group tours cover it: the short Europe Taster, New Year, Great Britain, New Year, the longer Helsinki to Warsaw, New Year and Classic Europe, Christmas and New Year, which covers both. Most of our Europe tours are on offer this month for bookings made between 31 October and 30 November 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the best place to watch fireworks in Dubai on New Year's Eve?
Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa host the biggest show, with free public viewing areas around Dubai Mall and Downtown. Atlantis The Palm, JBR, Bluewaters, the Dubai Frame and Global Village all run their own displays if you want a smaller crowd.
Do I need a ticket to watch the Burj Khalifa fireworks?
No, not for the free public viewing areas around Downtown Dubai and Dubai Mall. Burj Park, Emaar's premium viewing zone right at the base of the tower, is ticketed and has sold out in past years, so book early if you want it.
What time do Dubai Metro stations close on New Year's Eve?
In recent years the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station has closed from around 5pm, or earlier once it reaches capacity, while the Metro overall has run through the night. Confirm this year's exact timings with RTA closer to 31 December.
Is Global Village open on New Year's Eve, and does it have fireworks?
Yes, with extended hours in past years, and seven separate countdowns through the night with their own fireworks and drone shows for different time zones. Entry on the night has been restricted to families, couples and ladies.
Where can I watch New Year's Eve fireworks in Abu Dhabi or Ras Al Khaimah?
Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Festival at Al Wathba and the Yas Bay Waterfront both run shows, and Ras Al Khaimah's Al Marjan Island has set multiple Guinness World Records for its New Year's Eve fireworks and drone displays.
How do I avoid the crowds with young children on New Year's Eve in Dubai?
Pick a spot with an easy way out, such as the Dubai Frame or Hatta, agree a meeting point before you arrive, write a contact number on your child, and get there hours before midnight rather than for the final countdown.
