Oman Visa for UAE Residents: GCC e-Visa, Tourist Visa and Visa-Free Entry

The short answer: most UAE residents get into Oman on an online e-visa applied for before they travel. The cheapest is the GCC resident visa at OMR 5, for residents whose UAE residence has at least three months left; if that route does not accept you, the next step is a 30-day tourist e-visa (OMR 20), which some nationalities can only get through a sponsor in Oman, such as a hotel or tour operator. Some passports need no visa for stays of up to 14 days, and Emiratis need no visa at all.

Oman is the closest real change of scenery from Dubai: Muscat is a five-hour drive or an hour's flight away, and Musandam's fjords are a day trip from Ras Al Khaimah. The visa takes ten minutes online if you pick the right category.

The GCC resident visa

This is the route made for people who live in the UAE. You apply on the Royal Oman Police e-visa site, evisa.rop.gov.om, and it is approved online, usually within a day or two. The conditions published on Oman's government portal are:

  • A passport valid for at least six months
  • A GCC residence permit valid for at least three months
  • Employment with a company or institution: the form asks for your job title as it appears on your residence permit

Oman has historically limited this visa to residents in a list of accepted professions. If your job title is not accepted, or you are on a dependant's residence, the tourist e-visa below is the next option.

The standard tourist e-visa

The next option is Oman's tourist e-visa: OMR 20 for a single entry of up to 30 days, on the same ROP site. Have a passport scan, a photo, your UAE residence visa, a return booking, a hotel booking and health insurance ready. Dependants such as a spouse or children on your sponsorship usually apply this way.

Whether you can apply for it yourself depends on your passport. Many nationalities can apply unsponsored; others, Indian passport holders without a valid US, UK, Schengen, Canadian, Australian or Japanese visa among them, need the visa raised by a sponsor in Oman, usually the hotel or tour operator you are booked with. This is the step where an agency earns its fee.

Visa-free entry for 14 days

Oman lets citizens of more than 100 countries enter without a visa for up to 14 days, provided they hold a return ticket, a hotel booking, health insurance and enough money for the stay. Some nationalities only qualify if they also hold a visa or residence from certain countries. In August 2026 Oman also created a free 14-day tourist visa for nationalities it will name; that list had not been published when we checked. Look up your passport on the ROP e-visa site before you rely on either.

Applying: what you need

  1. Create an account on evisa.rop.gov.om and choose the visa type.
  2. Upload a scan of your passport, your UAE residence visa (or Emirates ID) and a passport photo.
  3. Pay by card. Keep the approved visa as a PDF on your phone and a printed copy for the border.

Apply a few days before you travel rather than at the border. Visa on arrival for GCC residents has been offered at times, but reports conflict on whether every land border still issues it, and a queue at Hatta is the wrong place to find out.

Driving to Oman, and Musandam

If you drive, the visa is only half of it. You pay a UAE exit fee of AED 35 per person at the border, and your car needs insurance that is valid in Oman. Our guide to Dubai to Oman by bus or car covers the crossings, the insurance and the bus.

Musandam, the Omani peninsula north of Ras Al Khaimah, follows the same visa rules as the rest of Oman. You enter through the Al Darah (Tibat) border north of Ras Al Khaimah, and Khasab is a short drive beyond it. The dhow cruises through the fjords leave from Khasab harbour.

Frequently asked questions

Do UAE residents need a visa for Oman?

Most do. UAE residents usually apply online for the GCC resident visa (OMR 5) or the 30-day tourist e-visa (OMR 20), which some nationalities need a sponsor in Oman for. Citizens of some countries can enter visa-free for up to 14 days, and Emiratis need no visa.

How much is the Oman visa for UAE residents?

OMR 5 for the GCC resident visa and OMR 20 for the 30-day tourist e-visa, before any sponsor or agency charge. Add the UAE exit fee of AED 35 per person if you cross by road.

Can Indian residents of the UAE get an Oman visa?

Yes. An Indian national whose UAE residence and job title qualify can apply for the OMR 5 GCC resident visa. Otherwise the 30-day tourist e-visa is unsponsored only with a valid US, UK, Schengen, Canadian, Australian or Japanese visa; without one, a hotel or tour operator in Oman applies as sponsor.

Can I get an Oman visa on arrival at the Hatta border?

Do not count on it. Visa on arrival for GCC residents has existed, but reports conflict on whether it is still issued at every border. Apply online before you go; approval usually takes a day or two.

Can my family use my GCC resident visa?

No. Each traveller needs their own visa. Family members on your sponsorship usually apply for the tourist e-visa, unless their own residence and job qualify them for the GCC resident visa.

Do I need a visa for Musandam?

Yes, unless you are a GCC citizen. Musandam is part of Oman, so the same e-visa rules apply when you cross at Al Darah north of Ras Al Khaimah.

Planning a trip to Oman

Oman rewards a long weekend: Muscat's old town and corniche, the Wahiba Sands, the wadis around Sur, or the mountains at Jebel Akhdar. See Oman visa services for the visa, or talk to us about a trip with hotels, a driver or a Musandam cruise arranged.
