The short answer: the UAE has several multiple-entry visit visas, and they differ by sponsor. The best known is the five-year multi-entry tourist visa: self-sponsored and open to all nationalities, with stays of up to 90 days at a time, extendable once by 90 days, and no more than 180 days in the UAE in any one year. GDRFA Dubai's page puts its cost at AED 3,713, of which AED 3,000 is a guarantee rather than a fee. Applicants need a bank balance of USD 4,000 or more over the previous six months, UAE health insurance and an onward or return ticket. For shorter trips, GDRFA Dubai lists a multiple-entry tourist visa sponsored by a travel agency, airline or hotel for 30 or 60 days, and a multiple-entry visa sponsored by a resident relative or friend for 30, 60 or 90 days.
A single-entry visit visa ends when you leave the UAE, even if it had days left. A multiple-entry visa lets you leave and come back while it is valid. That matters if you are combining Dubai with Oman or another trip, visiting family several times a year, or travelling in and out on business. The right choice depends on who sponsors you and how many days you need across the year.

The five-year multi-entry tourist visa
This is the visa most people mean by "UAE multiple entry visa" or "5 year tourist visa". The government portal u.ae describes it as letting tourists "enter the UAE multiple times on self-sponsorship and remain in the country for 90 days on each visit", and says it is open to all nationalities. Self-sponsored means no relative, employer or agency has to back the application. It suits frequent visitors and families who spend part of each year in the UAE.
Stay and the 180-day cap
GDRFA Dubai's page for the visa sets the rules:
- 90 days: you can stay up to 90 days, in one stay or across several, in any one year.
- One extension: those 90 days can be extended once by the same period, before a fine applies, as long as the total stays within 180 days a year.
- The year counts from your first entry, not from the date of issue. Unused days do not carry over.
- First entry must be within two months of issue, which can be extended by two more months.
- Counting days: GDRFA Dubai suggests requesting a travel report, which shows your entries and exits, to check how many days remain.
Cost and documents
GDRFA Dubai's page itemises the cost: an AED 100 application fee, AED 500 issuance fee, AED 3,000 guarantee, AED 21 guarantee service fee, AED 20 to collect and return the guarantee, a AED 10 Knowledge Dirham, a AED 10 Innovation Dirham and an AED 52.50 service fee, a total of AED 3,713. The page notes the total can vary with the applicant's circumstances. The AED 3,000 is a guarantee: the page says that if the visa's terms are broken, the fines are collected at the departure port and the guarantee is forfeited.
The documents GDRFA Dubai lists:
- A personal photo (see our UAE visa photo guide)
- A passport copy, with the passport valid for at least six months
- Six months of bank statements, showing a balance of USD 4,000 or the equivalent over the six months before you apply
- Health insurance valid in the UAE
- A return or onward ticket
How to apply
Online, at any time, through GDRFA Dubai's smart services (signing in with UAE Pass or a username): find the service, fill in the form, attach the documents and pay. In person, at a GDRFA Dubai Customer Happiness Centre or an Amer centre. GDRFA Dubai gives a processing time of 48 hours. For visas issued outside Dubai, ICP lists its own multiple-entry tourist visa service on icp.gov.ae; check the fee and documents on ICP's smart services before you apply, as GDRFA Dubai's figures may not apply unchanged.
Shorter multiple-entry visas
Sponsored by a travel agency, airline or hotel
GDRFA Dubai's ordinary tourist visa comes in single-entry and multiple-entry versions, both sponsored by "one of the establishments working in the field of tourism". Its pages list these fees:
| Visa | Length | Fee (plus 5% VAT) |
|---|---|---|
| Single entry | 30 days | AED 200 |
| Single entry | 60 days | AED 300 |
| Multiple entry | 30 days | AED 300 |
| Multiple entry | 60 days | AED 500 |
If the visitor is already inside the UAE when the visa is issued, both pages add a AED 500 fee and the two AED 10 charges. The documents are a personal photo and a passport copy, plus a national identity card for Iraqi, Pakistani, Iranian and Afghan nationals. Agency service charges come on top of the government fees.
Sponsored by a relative or friend
A UAE resident can sponsor a relative or friend on GDRFA Dubai's multi-entry visa for a relative or friend: 30, 60 or 90 days at AED 300, 500 or 700 plus VAT, with a AED 2,000 guarantee and health insurance of AED 40, 60 or 90 depending on the length. It needs documents proving the relationship, such as a marriage contract or birth certificate, and the sponsor's salary certificate or work contract. Our UAE visit visa for parents guide covers the family routes.
90-day multiple-entry visas through an agency
Our visa desk also arranges a 90-day multiple-entry visa. GDRFA Dubai's published page for the agency-sponsored multiple-entry tourist visa lists 30 and 60 days, so we confirm the visa type, sponsor and conditions for your passport before anything is submitted.
Single entry or multiple entry?
- One trip, then home: a single-entry visa costs less and does the job.
- A side trip during the stay, such as Oman or a flight to another country: a multiple-entry visa lets you come back without a new visa.
- Several visits a year, without a sponsor: the five-year visa, if you meet the bank balance and insurance conditions.
- Visiting family several times: the relative or friend multiple-entry visa, sponsored by the resident.
Whichever you hold, each stay must end within its limit. Past it, the overstay fine of AED 50 a day applies: see our UAE overstay fines guide. If a shorter visa needs more time, our UAE visit visa extension guide covers extensions.
