The short answer: most UAE residents with Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi or Sri Lankan passports need a Chinese tourist (L) visa. You apply in person at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Wafi Mall, Dubai, without an appointment. Regular processing takes four working days, and a single-entry visa costs AED 312 for those passports. Emiratis can visit China visa-free for up to 30 days, and so can holders of passports on China's visa-free list, which runs to 31 December 2026.
China is about eight hours from Dubai, with non-stop flights to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. There is no e-visa, so the visa means a visit to the centre with paper documents. The list below is what the centre asks for.

Who can visit China without a visa
Emiratis have had visa-free entry to China for up to 30 days since January 2018, under an agreement between the two countries.
China also lets citizens of more than 40 countries in visa-free for up to 30 days, a policy it has extended to 31 December 2026. The list covers most of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea, and since June 2025 it has included Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain. It goes by passport, not residence: a European passport holder living in Dubai qualifies, and an Indian passport holder does not.
India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Egypt are not on the list, so their nationals need a visa whatever their residence.
Documents for a China tourist visa from Dubai
- The application form, completed online, printed and signed. You fill it in on China's online visa application system and bring the printout with its confirmation page.
- Your original passport, valid for more than six months, with blank pages.
- Two colour photos, 48 × 33 mm, on a white background, taken in the last six months.
- A copy of your Emirates ID, and a copy of your UAE residence visa issued at least six months before, or a tenancy contract.
- A no-objection letter from your UAE sponsor, with a copy of the sponsor's passport. Children need a letter from both parents.
- Your return flight booking and hotel reservation, or an invitation from a person or company in China.
Do you need a bank statement?
Not according to the official lists. The centre's checklist does not ask for a bank statement, proof of funds or an employment letter for a tourist visa. Some agency websites quote a minimum balance, but that is not an official requirement.

The 240-hour visa-free transit
Citizens of 57 countries can spend up to 240 hours (ten days) in China without a visa if they are travelling on to a third country or region; Hong Kong and Macau count. You need a confirmed onward ticket and a passport valid for at least three months, and you must stay within the region of the port where you entered. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Egypt are not on this list either.
Getting from Dubai to China
Emirates flies non-stop from Dubai to Guangzhou and Beijing in about seven hours forty minutes, and to Shanghai in about eight hours forty. Chinese carriers also fly some of these routes.
