The short answer: Emiratis don't need a visa for Lithuania: they can stay up to 90 days in any 180. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan nationals living in the UAE need a Schengen visa. You apply at VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and the Embassy of Lithuania in Abu Dhabi decides. The visa fee is AED 384 for adults, plus a VFS service charge of AED 76.43. Processing takes at least 15 calendar days, and a host inviting you to visit files the invitation electronically through Lithuania's own MIGRIS system rather than handing you a paper letter.
Vilnius's UNESCO-listed Old Town, the island castle at Trakai, the Hill of Crosses near Šiauliai and the dunes of the Curonian Spit are why most UAE residents go. Lithuania issues Schengen visas, so a Lithuanian visa also covers the other Schengen countries, as long as Lithuania is your main destination.

Who needs a visa for Lithuania
Whether you need a visa depends on your passport. UAE citizens have been able to visit Lithuania and the rest of the Schengen area without a visa since May 2015. They will need the EU's ETIAS travel authorisation once it starts; it hasn't yet, and the EU says it will announce the date several months ahead.
Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan nationals need a Schengen visa, and so do most other nationalities living in the UAE. EU rules say you apply in the country where you legally live, so UAE residents apply in the UAE, not at home.
Apply to Lithuania if it is your main destination, where you spend the most nights. Five nights in Vilnius and Kaunas and two in Riga is a Lithuanian application; the reverse is a Latvian one. If your nights are split evenly, apply to the mission of the country you enter first. See our Schengen visa guide for how the rule works.
How to apply from Dubai or Abu Dhabi
- Fill in the Schengen application form on Lithuania's migracija.lt portal, then print and sign it. For a child under 18, both parents or legal guardians sign.
- Book an appointment with VFS Global's Lithuania site for the UAE, or through VFS's UAE helpline.
- Attend your appointment at VFS's visa centre in Wafi Mall, Dubai, or the World Trade Centre mall, Abu Dhabi (level B2). You hand in your documents, give fingerprints and pay the fees.
- Wait at least 15 calendar days. The Embassy of Lithuania in Abu Dhabi decides, and may ask you to attend an interview at the embassy; if it does, you must go in person.
The embassy's consular section is in Abu Dhabi. Questions about a visa you have already lodged go to the embassy; questions about appointments and fees go to VFS.
Documents
Lithuania's standard Schengen checklist, used across its missions, asks for the items below. Check the list VFS gives you when you book, in case the UAE centre adds anything.
- The signed application form
- Passport and a copy, with at least two blank pages, issued within the last ten years, valid at least three months after you leave the Schengen area
- UAE residence visa and a copy, valid at least three months after you return
- One recent photo, taken within the last six months, on a light background
- A letter from your employer stating your position, salary and start date, or your trade licence if you're self-employed
- Hotel booking for your whole stay, or your host's MIGRIS invitation if you're staying with family or friends
- Bank statements, around the last three months, showing a steady balance
- Travel medical insurance with at least EUR 30,000 of cover for the whole Schengen area, including repatriation
- Return flight reservation and a copy
Visiting family or friends
Lithuania handles invitations differently from most Schengen states. Instead of a notarised paper letter, your host in Lithuania submits a "mediation letter" themselves, electronically, through Lithuania's Migration Information System, MIGRIS. It states their address and contact details, how you're related, your intended dates, and whether they're covering your accommodation or costs. Your host also needs to show their own legal residence in Lithuania, usually a copy of their passport, national ID card or residence permit. Ask your host to start this before you book your appointment, since it has to be filed on their end, not yours.
Children
Bring the child's birth certificate and copies of both parents' passports. A minor travelling without both parents needs notarised written consent from the parent or legal guardian who isn't travelling, unless the travelling parent has sole custody or guardianship, in which case the custody document stands in its place.
How much money you need to show
Lithuania's checklists at its other missions ask for EUR 50 for each day of your stay, plus enough for your return journey. Confirm the figure for UAE applicants with VFS when you book. The checklist also asks for about three months of bank statements, so a steady balance over that period is worth more than a single large deposit.
Fees and processing time
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Visa fee, adults | AED 384 |
| Visa fee, children aged 6 to 11 | AED 190 |
| Visa fee, children under 6 | Free |
| VFS service charge, adults | AED 76.43 |
| VFS service charge, children under 12 | Exempt |
| Total for one adult | AED 460.43 |
VFS's fee page says these dirham amounts follow the exchange rate and can change without notice, and that no fee is refunded. The same page gives Lithuania's own processing figure: a decision within 15 calendar days, extendable to 45 calendar days in individual cases, which is shorter than the 60-day maximum some other Schengen missions quote. You can apply up to six months before you travel; Lithuania's page doesn't give a latest date, so apply well ahead of your trip, particularly if you might be called for an interview.
If you're refused, Lithuania's foreign ministry says there is no administrative appeal through the embassy. You contest the decision at the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court in Lithuania, within 14 days of being served the refusal, for a stamp duty of EUR 30, reduced to EUR 22.50 if you file electronically only. The appeal has to be in Lithuanian, so documents in another language need an approved Lithuanian translation.
At the border
Since April 2026, Lithuania and every other Schengen country register non-EU visitors in the EU's Entry/Exit System. On your first trip since it started, you give fingerprints and a photo at passport control instead of getting a stamp.
Flights from the UAE
- flydubai launched the first non-stop flights between Dubai and Vilnius on 12 December 2025, three times a week, flying as part of its codeshare partnership with Emirates.
- From Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, you connect through Dubai or a European hub.
Flights between the UAE and Europe were disrupted for much of 2026, so check your flight with the airline before you book, and make sure the reservation you submit matches your application dates.

Planning a trip to Lithuania
Three or four days covers Vilnius: the Old Town, Gediminas' Tower and a half-day trip to the island castle at Trakai. A week adds Kaunas, or a longer detour to the Hill of Crosses or the beaches and dunes of the Curonian Spit. Riga, across the border in Latvia, is about four hours away by bus and in Schengen too, so one visa covers both. See our Schengen visa services for help preparing your Lithuania application, browse holiday packages, or talk to us about flights and hotels.
