The short answer: most UAE residents need Uzbekistan's e-visa, applied for online before they travel. It is widely reported at USD 20 for a single entry, allows a stay of up to 30 days, and takes two or three working days. Emiratis need no visa for up to 30 days. Since 1 September 2026, Indian citizens with a valid multiple-entry US, UK, Schengen, Canadian, Japanese, Australian, New Zealand or South Korean visa can also visit visa-free for up to 30 days. UAE residence on its own does not give visa-free entry.

Tashkent is about three and a half hours from Dubai, and Samarkand about four. The Silk Road cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva make Uzbekistan one of the most rewarding short trips from the UAE, and for most people the visa is a simple online form.

Does UAE residence get you into Uzbekistan visa-free?

No official source says so. One travel site has claimed that a UAE residence visa gives 30 days visa-free, but neither Uzbekistan's government nor the UAE's says it, and Uzbekistan's new rule for Indian travellers does not mention UAE residence at all. Plan on the e-visa unless your passport, or one of the visas below, exempts you.

Who can visit Uzbekistan without a visa

Emiratis

UAE citizens have had visa-free entry to Uzbekistan for up to 30 days per visit since February 2024, under an agreement that also lets Uzbeks visit the UAE without a visa. Their passport must be valid for at least six months.

Indians with a US, UK or Schengen visa

A presidential decree signed on 29 August 2026 lets Indian citizens enter Uzbekistan without a visa from 1 September 2026 if they have:

  • a valid multiple-entry tourist or business visa from the US, the UK, a Schengen country, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand or South Korea, and
  • a ticket back to India or on to another country.

The stay is up to 30 days, and no longer than the other visa is valid. The rule is a pilot, due to be reviewed by July 2027. Indian passport holders without one of those visas apply for the e-visa. Reports of a wider visa waiver for all Indian passports are not yet in force.

Other passports

Many Western passports need no visa for 30 days, and US citizens joined that list in January 2026. Most other passports common in the UAE use the e-visa, but reports conflict for Filipino and Egyptian passports, so check yours with the Uzbek embassy.

How to apply for the Uzbekistan e-visa

  1. Open the government e-visa portal, e-visa.gov.uz. Several official-looking Uzbek visa addresses are in circulation, so if in doubt, follow the link from the Uzbek embassy's website.
  2. Enter your passport details, the purpose of your trip and your dates, and upload a photo of your face and of your passport's data page.
  3. Pay the fee by card.
  4. The e-visa arrives by email as a PDF. Print it and carry it with your passport.

The fees widely reported are USD 20 for a single entry, USD 35 for a double entry and USD 50 for multiple entries. The e-visa is usually valid for 90 days from issue, for a stay of up to 30 days. Apply at least a week before you fly.

Registration in Uzbekistan

Foreign visitors must be registered with the authorities while they stay. Hotels and guesthouses do this for you through the government's e-mehmon system when you check in; if you stay with friends, your host is responsible. Keep your hotel receipts until you leave.
