The short answer: for most UAE travellers, the best time to visit Georgia is late April to June or September to mid-October, when Tbilisi is mild (roughly 13–24°C by day), the mountains are open, and the Kakheti wine harvest is on in autumn. December to March brings snow and a real ski season at Gudauri and Bakuriani; July and August are hot in Tbilisi (daytime highs around 32°C) but suit Batumi's beach season and the cooler mountains.

Figures are average daily highs and lows and monthly rainfall for Tbilisi, from NOAA climate-station data (1994–2005 average), published by MeteoNews. They're long-run averages, not a forecast for any specific year, and Batumi and the mountains run noticeably different from the capital, as below.
The four seasons, properly explained
Spring (April–June): blossom, then heat
April and May are Tbilisi at its best: wildflowers in the hills, comfortable daytime temperatures, and the year's heaviest rain, so pack a layer for showers. By June the capital is already hot (around 28°C by day) while the Caucasus foothills stay noticeably cooler, which is why late spring suits a Tbilisi-plus-mountains itinerary better than a beach one.
Summer (July–August): hot in Tbilisi, cool in the mountains, warm on the coast
Tbilisi runs hot and fairly dry, with highs around 32°C. This is when the Georgian Military Road to Gudauri and Kazbegi earns its keep: the mountains sit 10–15°C cooler than the capital on the same day. It's also Batumi's beach season, which runs roughly June to September, warmest and busiest in July and August, with the Black Sea at its most swimmable from July onward.
Autumn (September–October): the wine harvest
This is Georgia's best all-round month pair: warm days, cooler nights, and Rtveli, the traditional grape harvest, running across Kakheti. There's no single festival date — picking starts in Kakheti's lower vineyards from early September and moves through the region, peaking in the second half of September and continuing into October in the later, mountain districts. Expect wineries hosting harvest lunches and informal village celebrations rather than one fixed event.
Winter (December–April): snow in the mountains, cold in the capital
Tbilisi itself rarely sees heavy snow and sits around 8°C by day in December and January. The ski resorts are a different climate entirely. Gudauri's season has typically opened in the last ten days of December in recent years and run to around mid-April, though the exact 2026–27 opening had not been announced at the time of writing, so check Gudauri's own site closer to December. Bakuriani, lower and more sheltered, runs a broadly similar window and suits beginners and families. Kazbegi, reached via the same Georgian Military Road, gets heavy snow and dramatic scenery but is a day-trip and photography destination rather than a ski base.
One practical point for winter visitors: the Jvari Pass section of the Georgian Military Road, between Gudauri and Kazbegi, closes temporarily for snow or avalanche risk several times most winters, sometimes for just a few hours and sometimes for a day or more. If you're travelling in December to March, build a spare day into the itinerary and check the road status the evening before you go.
When UAE school and public holidays line up with Georgia's seasons
| UAE holiday | 2026/27 dates | Georgia at that time |
|---|---|---|
| National Day | 2–3 December 2026 | Early winter; first snow, ski season just opening |
| School winter break | 14 December 2026 – 3 January 2027 (MOE calendar) | Peak early ski season; cold, short days in Tbilisi |
| New Year | 1 January 2027 | Deep winter; good for a ski trip, not for sightseeing days outdoors |
| Eid al-Fitr (expected) | Around 9–10 March 2027 — date depends on moon sighting | Early spring; mountains still snowy, Tbilisi mild |
| Eid al-Adha (expected) | Around 16–17 May 2027 — date depends on moon sighting | Late spring, close to Georgia's best weather window |
| Summer school holidays | Roughly July–August | Hot in Tbilisi; Batumi beach season at its peak |
The Eid dates above are current estimates based on expected moon sighting and will move by a day either way; confirm them closer to the time. National Day and the school winter break are fixed Gregorian dates and the most reliable of the group for booking flights and hotels well ahead.
Price and crowd seasons
July, August and the December holiday period are Georgia's busiest and priciest weeks for UAE travellers, since they line up with both summer and winter school breaks. Hotel price tracking for Tbilisi shows average rates climbing from the low-200s (GEL) for a 3-star room in January to the high-100s and above by June, with a similar seasonal lift at 4- and 5-star properties; expect the same pattern, if not the same numbers, around the December holidays. Late April to early June and September to mid-October are the better-value windows: good weather, the harvest going on in autumn, and noticeably less competition for hotel rooms and Kazbegi tour seats than in peak summer or over National Day and New Year.
So, when should you actually go?
- First visit, want to see the most in one trip: late April–June or September–mid-October.
- Want snow, skiing or a white Christmas feel: late December to March, based in Gudauri or Bakuriani.
- Want a beach add-on: June to September, with a few nights in Batumi.
- Travelling over UAE National Day or winter school break: expect a winter trip — plan around the mountains and Tbilisi's indoor sights rather than long outdoor days.
- Booking around Eid al-Fitr 2027: early spring, cooler but workable, and a good month for value once the exact date is confirmed.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best time to visit Georgia from the UAE?
Late April to June or September to mid-October, for mild Tbilisi weather, open mountain roads and, in autumn, the Kakheti wine harvest. These months also avoid the worst of the summer heat and the winter cold without peak-season crowds.
Is Georgia cold in winter?
Tbilisi itself is cool rather than severe, averaging around 8°C by day in December and January with only occasional light snow. The mountains are a different story: Gudauri, Bakuriani and Kazbegi get proper winter snow and support a ski season running roughly late December to mid-April.
Does it snow in Georgia, and where?
Yes, mainly in the Caucasus resorts: Gudauri, Bakuriani and the area around Kazbegi/Stepantsminda. The Jvari Pass section of the Georgian Military Road between Gudauri and Kazbegi can close temporarily in heavy snow, so build spare time into a winter itinerary that uses this road.
What is the weather like in Georgia in December?
Cold and short on daylight in Tbilisi, averaging around 8°C by day and near freezing at night, with the ski season at Gudauri typically starting in the second half of the month. It's a good month for a mountain or ski-focused trip, less so for long days of outdoor sightseeing in the capital.
When is the best time to visit Tbilisi specifically?
April to June and September to October are the most comfortable windows for walking the city — mild temperatures, without July and August's heat or January's cold. Spring brings more rain; autumn tends to be drier and is when the wine harvest is on in nearby Kakheti.
Is Batumi worth visiting, and when?
Yes, for a beach add-on to a Georgia trip. The swimming season runs roughly June to September, warmest in July and August, with a Mediterranean-adjacent, pebble-beach feel rather than sand. Outside those months it's a quieter coastal city rather than a beach destination.
