The short answer: Emiratis don't need a visa for France: they can stay up to 90 days in any 180. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan nationals living in the UAE need a Schengen visa. You fill in the form on France-Visas, the French government's visa site, then hand in your documents at VFS Global's France centre in Abu Dhabi. That centre serves every emirate, Dubai included, and the French consular section in Abu Dhabi decides. The visa fee is EUR 90 for adults, about AED 376, plus VFS's service charge of EUR 30.33. Processing takes about 15 working days, but appointments are the bottleneck: France advises booking three months before you travel.

Paris is the most searched Schengen trip from the UAE, and the Riviera, Provence and the Alps follow close behind. France issues Schengen visas, so a French visa also covers the other Schengen countries, as long as France is your main destination.

Who needs a visa for France

Whether you need a visa depends on your passport. UAE citizens have been able to visit France and the rest of the Schengen area without a visa since May 2015. They will need the EU's ETIAS travel authorisation once it starts; it hasn't yet, and the EU says it will announce the date several months ahead.

Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan nationals need a Schengen visa, and so do most other nationalities living in the UAE. EU rules say you apply in the country where you legally live, so UAE residents apply in the UAE, not at home.

Apply to France if it is your main destination, where you spend the most nights. A week in Paris with two nights in Brussels is a French application; five nights in Rome and two in Nice is an Italian one. See our Schengen visa guide for how the rule works.

How to apply from Dubai or Abu Dhabi

  1. Fill in the form on France-Visas. The site asks about your trip and gives you a personalised document checklist and a reference number. Print the completed form: registering online is not the same as applying.
  2. Book an appointment on VFS Global's France site for the UAE, using your France-Visas reference. You pay the EUR 30.33 service charge online at this point. Every applicant needs their own appointment, children included.
  3. Attend your appointment at the VFS France centre on level B2 of The Mall at the World Trade Centre, Abu Dhabi. Submissions run Monday to Friday during the day; check the time on your appointment letter. You hand in your documents, give fingerprints and pay the visa fee.
  4. Wait about 15 working days for the decision, then collect your passport from the centre or pay for courier return.

All French visa applications in the UAE are handled in Abu Dhabi: the Consulate General in Dubai has not issued visas since 2019. An older France-Visas PDF still mentions a Dubai centre, but the live France-Visas and VFS pages list Abu Dhabi only. Check the centre on your booking before you set off.

You can reschedule an appointment twice, up to two working days before it. After that, a change counts as a new booking with a new service charge.

Documents

France-Visas gives each applicant a checklist based on their answers. For a tourist or family visit by a UAE resident it asks for:

  • Passport issued within the last ten years, with at least two blank pages, valid at least three months after you leave the Schengen area, plus copies of the photo page and every page with a visa or stamp
  • Two recent photos; the checklist says one, but VFS recommends bringing two
  • Your UAE residence visa and Emirates ID as proof that you live in the UAE. France doesn't publish a minimum validity; plan on at least three months beyond your return date, which is what most Schengen states ask.
  • The printed, signed France-Visas form
  • Return flight reservation and your itinerary
  • Proof of your work: an employment contract or a letter from your employer (an NOC and salary certificate are the usual UAE documents), or your trade licence if you own a business
  • Proof of funds: recent bank statements and payslips
  • Proof of accommodation: a hotel booking, a rental agreement or, if you stay with someone, their "attestation d'accueil", a certificate of accommodation they get from their town hall in France
  • Travel medical insurance with at least EUR 30,000 of cover for the whole Schengen area and your whole stay, including repatriation

A child travelling without both parents needs France-Visas' parental authorisation form, signed in original by both parents and the host, with copies of each signatory's ID.

How much money you need to show

France doesn't publish a minimum bank balance for UAE applicants. Its checklist does set one figure: if you haven't booked a hotel, you show enough money to pay for one at EUR 120 a day. Your statements should also show a regular salary and enough to cover flights, food and travel inside France.

Fees and optional services

FeeAmount
Visa fee, adultsEUR 90 (about AED 376)
Visa fee, children aged 6 to 11EUR 45
Visa fee, children under 6Free
VFS service charge, every applicantEUR 30.33
Premium lounge (optional)EUR 70
Prime time, outside normal hours (optional)AED 182
Visa preparation assistance (optional)AED 182
Form filling help at the centre (optional)AED 52.50

Both fees are charged in dirhams at the French administration's exchange rate on the day, so the AED amounts move slightly. Spouses of French citizens and some family members of EU citizens pay no visa fee. Neither fee is refunded if you are refused, and VFS says its optional services don't speed up the decision or the wait for an appointment.

Processing time and appointments

VFS says a short-stay application takes about 15 working days once it is lodged, and can take longer. Getting the appointment usually takes longer than the decision: France advises booking at least three months before you travel, and summer and Christmas slots go first. You can apply up to six months ahead.

The centre had a difficult 2026. During the regional disruption in the spring it stopped taking new applications for a time; on 20 May 2026 VFS said it had resumed normal operations for all visa types. France-Visas also warns against websites and companies that claim to sell French visas or appointments. Book only on VFS's own site.

At the border

Since April 2026, France and every other Schengen country register non-EU visitors in the EU's Entry/Exit System. On your first trip since it started, you give fingerprints and a photo at passport control instead of getting a stamp.

Flights from the UAE

  • Emirates flies non-stop from Dubai to Paris several times a day, in about seven hours, and also to Lyon and Nice.
  • Etihad flies non-stop from Abu Dhabi to Paris, and to Nice in summer.
  • Air France paused its Dubai flights in 2026 and is reported to restart them in late October 2026.

Flights between the UAE and Europe were disrupted for much of 2026, so check your flight with the airline before you book, and make sure the reservation you submit matches your application dates.

Frequently asked questions

Where do Dubai residents apply for a France visa?

How much is the France visa fee from Dubai?

EUR 90 for adults, about AED 376 at the rate France used in October 2026, and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 11. Children under 6 pay no visa fee. VFS adds a service charge of EUR 30.33 per applicant.

How long does a France visa take from Dubai?

Yes. A French Schengen visa is valid in all 29 Schengen countries, but apply to France only if you will spend the most nights there.

Do Emiratis need a visa for France?

No. UAE citizens can visit France without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180. They will need an ETIAS travel authorisation once the EU starts it.

Planning a trip to France

Five days covers Paris with a day trip to Versailles; a week adds the Loire valley or Normandy, and ten days the Riviera. London is a little over two hours from Paris by Eurostar, but the UK is outside Schengen, so you need a separate UK visa. See our Schengen visa services for help preparing your France application, browse holiday packages, or talk to us about flights and hotels.
