The short answer: compare tour packages from Dubai on the same basis before you compare prices. Check that both quotes are per person in a shared room, and list what each includes and leaves out: flights, the visa, transfers, meals, entry fees and optional excursions. Then look at the hotel names and star ratings, how many nights you spend in each place, the group size, and the cancellation and payment terms. A package that looks AED 500 cheaper can cost more once flights, a visa or half the sightseeing are added back.

This guide is a checklist for choosing a tour package from the UAE, whether it is a week in Bali, a guided coach tour of Europe or a few days in Georgia. It uses real examples from the trips we sell, so you can see what the fine print looks like. To see the trips themselves, browse our tour packages from Dubai.

First, know which kind of package you are buying

TypeWhat it isBest for
Holiday packageHotels, some sightseeing and often transfers, for your own dates, with your own groupCouples and families who want flexibility, beach and city breaks
Guided group tourA fixed route on fixed dates with a tour leader, a coach and other travellersMulti-country trips, first visits, solo travellers who want company
Private or tailor-made tourA route built for you, with a private driver or guideFamilies, older travellers, special interests, higher budgets
Hotel and flight onlyThe basics, with no sightseeing includedRepeat visitors and easy destinations

Three examples from our range show how different they are:

  • Bali, 4 nights 5 days, from AED 3,899 per person: four nights with breakfast, guided visits to Tanah Lot and the Tegalalang rice terraces, Monkey Forest entry, a Balinese spa session and the Indonesia visa at no extra cost. Flights and airport transfers are not included.
  • Georgia Cultural Heritage Tour, 7 days, from AED 4,799 per person: 4-star hotels, daily breakfast, three dinners with wine, a Kakheti wine tasting, a cooking class and an English-speaking guide. Flights are extra.
  • Europe Taster, 7 days, from AED 6,005 per person: a guided coach tour from London through Paris, the Swiss Alps, the Rhine and Amsterdam, with six nights in 3- and 4-star hotels, six breakfasts, four dinners and a tour leader, in a group of up to 53. Flights, insurance and optional excursions are extra.

The checklist: 10 things to compare

1. Read the price the same way

Package prices in the UAE are usually per person, based on two people sharing a room. A solo traveller pays a single supplement, and a third person in the room may pay less. Tour prices also change by date. The Europe Taster, for example, costs from AED 6,005 per person on its August 2027 dates and AED 7,217 in July. Make sure both quotes are for the same date, room and number of travellers.

2. List what is included, and what is not

This is where packages differ most. Put the two quotes side by side:

ItemOften includedOften extra
Return flightsSome packagesMost guided tours and many packages
VisaSome, such as our Bali packageMost, plus the visa centre's charge
Airport transfersMost holiday packagesMany guided tours, which start at a meeting hotel
MealsBreakfast; some dinners on toursLunches and most dinners
Sightseeing and entry feesThe named visitsOptional excursions, booked on the trip
Travel insuranceRarelyAlmost always
Tourist taxes and tipsRarelyUsually paid locally

Optional excursions add up: on the Europe Taster, the train to Jungfraujoch in the Swiss Alps is about AED 960 per person on its own. Ask for the list and prices before you book.

3. Find out who books the flights

If flights are not included, ask the agency to quote them with the package, timed to the tour. Guided tours often start early on day one, so you may need to arrive the day before, which means one more hotel night. We quote flights from Dubai with every booking on request.

4. Check the visa: who applies, what it costs, how long it takes

The visa can decide your dates. A Schengen visa costs EUR 90 for adults, and summer appointments in Dubai fill weeks ahead. Some destinations, such as Georgia, Armenia and Thailand, are visa-free for many UAE residents, depending on the passport. Ask whether the package includes the visa or a visa service, and check your passport: many countries want it valid for at least six months beyond your trip. Our guide to visa-free countries for UAE residents is a good place to start.

5. Look up the hotels by name

"4-star or similar" can mean very different hotels. Ask for the hotel names, then check where they are: a hotel in the centre saves taxi fares and time, while an airport hotel does not. Our tour pages list every hotel on the route.

6. Count the nights in each place

A trip that changes hotel every night is tiring, however good it looks on paper. Divide the nights by the number of stops. One-country tours and packages with two bases are gentler than routes covering six countries in a week. Check the activity level too: the Europe Taster is rated moderate, with early starts and walking tours of up to three hours.

7. Ask about the group

Group tours range from small groups to coaches of 50 or more. A big group is cheaper and sociable, while a small group or a private tour is quicker at every stop and more flexible. Ask the maximum group size and the language of the guide.

8. Check meals and dietary needs

Count the included meals, and tell the agency about halal, vegetarian or other needs before you book, so they are passed on to the hotels and the tour operator. In destinations where pork is common, such as Bali or parts of Europe, ask which meals can be halal.

9. Read the cancellation terms

Cancellation charges usually rise as the departure date gets closer. Ours start at 10% of the package value plus service fees if you cancel more than 45 days ahead, rising to the full value inside seven days, and airlines and hotels can have stricter terms of their own. Refunds start 7 to 14 business days after the request. Our cancellation and refund policy has the full table, and travel insurance covers what the terms do not.

10. Compare how you pay

Check when you pay and how. For our guided tours, nothing is charged when you book: we confirm the seats with the operator first, then send a secure payment link. You can split the cost with Tabby or Tamara, or over 3 to 12 months at 0% on cards from Emirates NBD, Liv, Mashreq, ADCB, HSBC and RAKBANK for bookings of AED 1,000 or more. See how instalments work.

Copy this into a note and fill it in for each quote. The cheaper headline price is not always the cheaper trip.

When to book a tour package from Dubai

  • Europe in summer: three to six months ahead, so there is time for the Schengen appointment. You can apply up to six months before travel.
  • Eid, National Day and the school holidays: as soon as you know the dates, because flights from the UAE climb and group tours fill. Our UAE public holidays 2027 guide has the expected dates.
  • Short-haul and visa-free trips: Georgia, Armenia or Thailand can be booked a few weeks out outside peak weeks.
  • Seasonal sights: Japan's cherry blossom, Christmas in Europe and the Masai Mara migration sell out early. Our guide to the best holiday destinations from the UAE by month shows when each is at its best.

Frequently asked questions

Are tour package prices from Dubai per person?

Usually, yes: most are per person, based on two people sharing a room. Solo travellers pay a single supplement, and children or a third person sharing may pay less. Always check the room basis before comparing two quotes.

Do tour packages from Dubai include flights?

Some do, but many don't, and most guided tours start and end at a hotel in the destination. If flights are not included, ask for them to be quoted with the package so the times match the tour.

Is it cheaper to book a package or plan the trip yourself?

For multi-country trips, peak seasons and destinations where transfers, guides and entry fees add up, such as Egypt, Europe or a safari, a package is often cheaper and always simpler. For one city you know well, booking it yourself can cost less.

What should a good tour package include?

At least the named hotels, the transport between stops, the sightseeing it advertises and clear terms. Breakfast, transfers and a guide are common. Check flights, the visa, insurance and optional excursions separately, because they are often extra.

Can I pay for a tour package in instalments?

Yes. We accept Tabby and Tamara for any amount, and 0% instalment plans over 3 to 12 months on cards from major UAE banks for bookings of AED 1,000 or more.

What if I need to cancel?

Charges depend on how far ahead you cancel. Ours run from 10% of the package value plus service fees more than 45 days before departure, up to the full value inside seven days. Travel insurance can cover cancellations for reasons such as illness.
