The short answer: the cheapest countries to visit from Dubai are a short, low-cost flight away and cheap once you land. Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan are about three hours from the UAE. Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal and Sri Lanka are about four, and in all of them a comfortable day costs roughly AED 200 to 450 per person, flights aside. Further out, Thailand, Vietnam and Egypt are just as good value on the ground. Most of these have easy visas for UAE residents, though the rules depend on your passport. Our cheapest packaged trips start at AED 2,500 per person for six days in Thailand and AED 3,838 for nine days in Egypt.
"Cheap" has two parts: getting there and being there. This guide ranks the destinations that do well on both, with the flight time, the visa and a rough daily budget for each, then lists our lowest-priced trips and the habits that keep a holiday from the UAE affordable. Figures are per person and checked in October 2026.

Daily budgets are rough figures for a comfortable trip: a mid-range hotel room shared by two, meals out and local transport, without flights, tours or shopping. Backpackers spend less, and a 5-star trip costs more anywhere.
The three-hour trips: the Caucasus
For a cheap trip from Dubai, start here. flydubai and Air Arabia both fly to all three capitals, the flights are short enough for a long weekend, and summer temperatures are well below the Gulf's.
Georgia
Tbilisi is about 3 hours 10 minutes from Dubai or Sharjah, and Georgia is one of the cheapest places to eat and drink well within reach of the UAE. Spend a few days in the old town and its sulphur baths, then add the wine country of Kakheti or the mountains at Kazbegi. Georgia has let most holders of a UAE residence permit in without a visa, but the conditions, such as how long the permit has left to run, are checked at the border, so read our Georgia visa guide before you book. Our 7-day Georgia Cultural Heritage Tour costs from AED 4,799 per person with 4-star hotels, breakfasts, three dinners with wine, a Kakheti wine tasting, a cooking class and an English-speaking guide; flights are quoted on top.
Armenia
Yerevan is also about 3 hours 10 minutes away. From 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2027, nationals of 111 countries can enter without a visa if they hold a UAE residence permit valid for at least six months, and Emiratis need no visa anyway. Everyone else gets an e-visa online from USD 8. Monasteries in the mountains, Lake Sevan and a lively capital make it an easy four or five days. Details are in our Armenia visa guide.
Azerbaijan
Baku is about 3 hours from Dubai, with the walled old city, the Caspian boulevard and the mud volcanoes and mountain villages outside town. It costs a little more than Georgia or Armenia, but it is still good value, and the visa is light: a visa on arrival for some passports and residents, or the ASAN e-visa in about three working days. See our Azerbaijan visa guide.
Central Asia: the Silk Road and the mountains
Uzbekistan
Tashkent is about 3.5 hours from Dubai, and flydubai and Air Arabia both fly there non-stop. Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva are among the most striking cities you can reach from the UAE, and fast trains link Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara. Most UAE residents need the e-visa, widely reported at USD 20 for 30 days; Emiratis need none. Our Uzbekistan visa guide has the rest.
Kyrgyzstan
Bishkek is about four hours from Dubai or Sharjah. Kyrgyzstan is a summer escape of mountains, yurt camps and lakes, and costs little once you are there. Emiratis are visa-free; most other nationalities get the official e-visa, about USD 52 for a month. See our Kyrgyzstan visa guide.
Kazakhstan
Almaty, under the snow peaks of the Tian Shan, is about 4 hours 45 minutes away, with flydubai from Dubai and Air Arabia from Sharjah. Emiratis and Filipinos can visit visa-free for 30 days and Indians for 14. Most other passports need an e-visa backed by an invitation from a Kazakh travel company. Read our Kazakhstan visa guide first.
South Asia: four hours to the mountains or the beach
Nepal
Kathmandu is about four hours from Dubai on flydubai or from Sharjah on Air Arabia, and Nepal is one of the cheapest countries in this list. Most UAE residents get a visa on arrival (USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days). Indian nationals need no visa, and Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan nationals get a free 30-day visa once a year. Kathmandu's temples, the lakes at Pokhara and the short Himalayan treks fill a week easily. See our Nepal visa guide.
Sri Lanka
Colombo is about 4.5 hours away. Since 25 May 2026, Sri Lanka's ETA has been free for UAE, Indian, Pakistani and many Western passports, though you still apply online at eta.gov.lk before you fly, and Filipino, Egyptian and Bangladeshi nationals pay the standard fee. Tea country, the train through the hills to Ella and the beaches of the south coast make it a strong winter trip. Details are in our Sri Lanka visa guide.
A little further: Egypt and Turkey
Egypt
Cairo is under four hours from Dubai. Egypt is one of the best-value long breaks from the UAE, and a guided tour takes care of the internal flight, the guides and the boat on the Nile. Most UAE residents get the e-visa (USD 30 for a single entry), and GCC citizens need none. Our Egypt Nile Adventure with Felucca Cruise runs nine days from AED 3,838 per person, with an Egyptologist tour leader, the flight from Cairo to Aswan, a night on a felucca and two days on the Red Sea, and the Egypt Nile Jewel, with a 5-star Nile boat, from AED 4,389. Read our Egypt visa guide.
Turkey
Istanbul is about 4 hours 45 minutes from Dubai. Flights cost more than to the Caucasus, but the lira keeps hotels and food good value, and Cappadocia, Pamukkale and the coast make Turkey a full week or more. Emiratis are visa-free; other passports need an e-visa or an embassy visa, depending on the passport and the visas you already hold. Our Highlights of Turkey tour runs ten days from AED 6,409. See the Turkey visa guide.
Southeast Asia: longer flights, cheapest days
Thailand
Bangkok is about six hours from Dubai on Emirates and from Sharjah on Air Arabia. Street food, cheap massages and good-value hotels keep daily costs low, from Chiang Mai to the islands. Since 15 September 2026, UAE, Indian and Filipino passports, among 60 nationalities, get 30 days visa-free. Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi, Nepali and Egyptian nationals need an e-visa, and everyone fills in the free TDAC arrival card online. Our 6-day Thailand package covering Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket is the cheapest trip we sell, from AED 2,500 per person. See our Thailand visa guide.
Vietnam
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are about seven hours from Dubai, with Emirates non-stop to both; there is no low-cost non-stop flight from the UAE. On the ground Vietnam is one of the cheapest countries in Asia. Every UAE resident, Emiratis included, applies online for the e-visa (USD 25 single entry, up to 90 days). Our Vietnam Heritage Journey runs eight days from Hanoi and Ha Long Bay to Hoi An and the Mekong Delta, from AED 7,200. See our Vietnam visa guide.

How to keep a trip from the UAE cheap
- Avoid the peak weeks. Fares jump around Eid, the school holidays and Christmas. Our UAE public holidays 2027 guide shows the expected dates, so you can book early or travel a week either side.
- Check all three airports. flydubai flies from Dubai, Air Arabia mainly from Sharjah (and from Abu Dhabi to some cities), so compare them before you book. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi closed in September 2025, so older advice about its fares no longer applies.
- Look at the bag allowance. Low-cost fares are often cheapest without checked baggage. Fly carry-on only for a short trip, and add bags online rather than at the airport.
- Pick a country where the visa is free or quick. A free or USD 8 e-visa beats a fee plus a trip to a visa centre. The rules depend on your passport, so check them first.
- Book a package where the extras add up. In Egypt, Thailand or on a safari, transfers, guides and entry fees cost more bought one by one than in a package.
- Spread the cost. You can pay for our trips in instalments with Tabby or Tamara, or over 3 to 12 months on a UAE bank card for bookings from AED 1,000. See how instalments work.
