The short answer: Emirates flies non-stop from Dubai to both Zurich and Geneva, in about 7 hours; SWISS also flies non-stop to Zurich. You need a Schengen visa for Switzerland, applied for from Dubai. A realistic mid-range 7-day trip costs roughly AED 9,000 to 15,000 per person on the ground, a transport pass, two mountain excursions, hotels and food, before flights and the visa fee, which move separately with the season and how far ahead you book. Holidayys does not sell a Switzerland-only package, but several of our escorted tours include it, and we can build a custom Switzerland itinerary on request.

Getting to Switzerland from Dubai
Emirates flies non-stop from Dubai to Zurich daily, a flight Emirates' own route page lists at 6 hours 55 minutes, though third-party trackers show it running up to 7 hours 20 minutes depending on the day and winds. SWISS also operates the Zurich route non-stop. For Geneva, Emirates is currently the only non-stop operator from Dubai, at about 7 hours 5 to 7 hours 10 minutes each way; SWISS and other carriers serve Geneva only with a connection, typically through Zurich. There is no non-stop service from Sharjah or Abu Dhabi, so a low-cost routing from either usually means a stop and several extra hours.
Which airport to fly into depends on your route. Zurich suits an itinerary that starts with Lucerne and the Bernese Oberland; Geneva suits one that starts in French-speaking Switzerland, closer to Montreux and Lake Geneva.
The Schengen visa for Switzerland
Switzerland is a full Schengen member, so UAE residents apply the same way they would for France or Germany: a short-stay Schengen visa through VFS Global in Dubai, naming Switzerland as the main destination. We cover the paperwork, fees and current appointment wait in full in our Switzerland visa from Dubai guide; the short version is to apply as early as the embassy's own window allows, since appointment slots, rather than processing time, are usually the bottleneck. For the booking and appointment itself, see Schengen visa services and zero-cost Schengen appointment.
What a week in Switzerland actually costs
Switzerland is priced in Swiss francs, and the franc has been strong against the dirham through 2026: it bought about AED 4.71 in April and around AED 4.40 in the first days of October, the rate used below. Convert at the live rate before you budget, since it moves.
| Item | Cost in CHF | About, in AED |
|---|---|---|
| Swiss Travel Pass, 4 consecutive days, 2nd class | CHF 309 | AED 1,360 |
| Jungfraujoch return from Interlaken | CHF 224 (low season) to CHF 261 (May–Oct) | AED 985–1,150 |
| Mt Titlis return from Engelberg | CHF 102 full fare (CHF 51 with the Travel Pass or Half Fare Card) | AED 450 (AED 225 discounted) |
| Hotels, mid-range, 6 nights | CHF 160–350 a night | AED 4,220–9,240 |
| Food, mid-range, one restaurant meal a day | CHF 60–100 a day | AED 1,850–3,080 |
| Total, 7 days, excluding flights and visa | About AED 9,000–15,000 per person |
Flights and the visa fee sit outside this table because they move on their own timetable: fares swing hugely with how far ahead you book and whether you travel over the UAE winter break or National Day, and the Schengen visa fee and service charge are set out in our Switzerland visa guide. The figures above are the standard adult, second-class or full fare; the Swiss Travel Pass and the Half Fare Card both cut the Titlis fare roughly in half, and a rail pass is usually the better value if you are covering three or more of the towns below.
A 7-day Switzerland itinerary
A week is enough for four bases if you keep each stop short.
- Days 1–2, Zurich. Settle in, walk the old town and the lake promenade.
- Day 3, Lucerne and Mount Titlis. The Chapel Bridge and old town in the morning, then the revolving cable car up Mount Titlis in the afternoon.
- Days 4–5, Interlaken and the Jungfrau region. Travel in by train, then take the cogwheel railway up to the Jungfraujoch, Europe's highest railway station, via Grindelwald or Wengen.
- Days 6–7, Zermatt. Change trains at Spiez and Visp; cars cannot enter the village, so the last stretch from Täsch is by shuttle train. Allow time for the Matterhorn views before flying home from Zurich or Geneva.
A 10-day Switzerland itinerary
With three more days, add the Glacier Express and a second region rather than rushing the same four stops.
- Days 1–2, Zurich.
- Day 3, Lucerne.
- Day 4, Mount Titlis, as a day trip from Lucerne.
- Days 5–6, Interlaken and the Jungfraujoch.
- Days 7–8, Zermatt, with a full day free for the glacier cable car above the village or the Gornergrat railway.
- Day 9, the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St Moritz, a scenic rail journey of about 8 hours over 291 km, often called the slowest express train in the world.
- Day 10, back to Zurich via Chur, about 3 to 3.5 hours, for the flight home.
The GoldenPass Line, Lucerne to Montreux via Interlaken and Zweisimmen, is a scenic alternative to the Glacier Express if you would rather end in French-speaking Switzerland near Geneva.
Best time to visit Switzerland
Summer, June to September, is the most reliable season for hiking and for full access to the cable cars and mountain railways in this guide. December to March is ski season in Zermatt and the high Alps, with snow in the valleys from December and the best conditions typically from late January. The Glacier Express itself pauses between mid-October and early December each year for off-season maintenance before its winter season starts, so avoid that window if the train is the point of your trip.
April–May and October–November are the shoulder months: fewer crowds and lower hotel rates, but some cable cars and mountain restaurants close for a few weeks either side of the main seasons, and spring weather on the high passes can be unpredictable. Check the specific lift or railway's operating dates before building a tight itinerary around it.
Halal food and prayer facilities
Zurich and Geneva are the two cities best set up for Muslim travellers. In Zurich, the Langstrasse area has the largest concentration of halal restaurants, mostly Turkish, Lebanese and South Asian kitchens; in Geneva, the Pâquis neighbourhood near Cornavin station has a similar cluster. Swiss law has required animals to be stunned before slaughter since 1893, so the halal meat sold in Switzerland is imported, and certification varies by supplier: Muslim-owned kitchens are the simplest choice. Mosques exist in both cities, including a large mosque in Geneva's Petit-Saconnex district, but facilities are thinner once you are outside the two main cities, so plan meals and prayer breaks around Zurich or Geneva rather than assuming facilities in Lucerne, Interlaken or Zermatt.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the flight from Dubai to Switzerland?
About 7 hours non-stop to either Zurich or Geneva. Emirates flies both routes; SWISS also flies Zurich non-stop, but not Geneva.
Do UAE residents need a visa for Switzerland?
Yes, a Schengen visa, applied for from Dubai. See our Switzerland visa from Dubai guide for the documents and fee.
How much does a Switzerland trip from Dubai cost?
Excluding flights and the visa fee, a mid-range 7-day trip runs roughly AED 9,000 to 15,000 per person for a transport pass, two mountain excursions, hotels and food. Flights vary widely by season and booking window.
What is the best time to visit Switzerland?
June to September for hiking and full cable car access; December to March for skiing in Zermatt and the high Alps. April–May and October–November are cheaper but see some lift and restaurant closures.
Is the Glacier Express worth it?
It is a scenic, roughly 8-hour rail journey between Zermatt and St Moritz rather than a faster way to travel, so it suits a 10-day trip or longer rather than a tight 7-day one.
Does Holidayys sell a Switzerland-only package?
Not as a fixed package, but several of our escorted European tours include Switzerland, and we can build a custom Switzerland-only itinerary on request through WhatsApp or the contact page.
